Lazy Mom Tip #10

Da da da Daaaaaaaa!!! [That's my horn fanfare sound]

Preeeesenting, Lazy Mom Tip number 10! [This is where you go wild out in the crowd]

This is a tip I'm sure most of you LM's out there already use. It's called "double-the-dinner-that-you're-making-tonight-and-freeze-the-other-portion-for-later" tip.

Pictured above is a frozen pan of goulash. Several weeks ago I was in a cooking mood. Something that is all too rare for me - ME actually WANTING to cook. Usually I just force myself to do it even though I want to go hide somewhere and escape the thought that dinner time is aproaching. Come on now, who's with me on that?

Well this one day, I was in a cooking mood. So I said to myself, "Self. We should take full advantage of this rare moment and double tonights meal and freeze the extra portion for another inevitable night when I WON'T be in a cooking mood." My self totally agreed, so that's what we did.

Have I totally confused you? The tip is this: whenever you are making dinner for your family double everything and freeze half of it for another night! Got it? Good.

Or you could just go to your local Dinner by Design and make a whole months worth of food in one evening!

Why Did God Make Moms?

Received this from a friend today and thought it was too cute not to share!

Why did God make mothers?
> 1. She's the only one who knows where the scotch tape is.
> 2. Mostly to clean the house
> 3. To help us out of there when we were getting born.

How did God make mothers?
> 1. He used dirt, just like for the rest of us.
> 2. Magic plus super powers and a lot of stirring.
> 3. God made my Mom just the same like he made me. He just used bigger parts.

What ingredients are mothers made of?
> 1. God makes mothers out of clouds and angel hair and everything nice in the world and one dab of mean.
> 2. They had to get their start from men's bones. Then they mostly use string, I think.

Why did God give you your mother and not some other mom?
> 1. We're related.
> 2. God knew she likes me a lot more than other people's moms like me.

What kind of little girl was your mom?
> 1. My Mom has always been my mom and none of that other stuff.
> 2. I don't know because I wasn't there, but my guess would be pretty bossy.
> 3. They say she used to be nice.

What did mom need to know about dad before she married him?
> 1. His last name.
> 2. She had to know his background. Like is he a crook? Does he get drunk on beer?
> 3. Does he make at least $800 a year? Did he say NO to drugs and YES to chores?

Why did your mom marry your dad?
> 1. My dad makes the best spaghetti in the world. And my Mom eats a lot.
> 2. She got too old to do anything else with him.
> 3. My grandma says that Mom didn't have her thinking cap on.

Who's the boss at your house?
> 1. Mom doesn't want to be boss, but she has to because dad's such a goof ball.
> 2. Mom. You can tell by room inspection. She sees the stuff under the bed.
> 3. I guess Mom is, but only because she has a lot more to do than dad.

What's the difference between moms & dads?
> 1. Moms work at home at work and dads just go to work at work.
> 2. Moms know how to talk to teachers without scaring them.
> 3. Dads are taller & stronger, but moms have all the real power cause that's who you got to ask if you want to sleep over at your friend's.
> 4. Moms have magic, they make you feel better without medicine.

What does your mom do in her spare time?
> 1. Mothers don't do spare time.
> 2. To hear her tell it, she pays bills all day long.

What would it take to make your mom perfect?
> 1. On the inside, she's already perfect. Outside, I think some kind of plastic surgery.
> 2. Dye it. You know, her hair. I'd dye it, maybe blue.

If you could change one thing about your mom, what would it be?
> 1. She has this weird thing about me keeping my room clean. I'd get rid of that.
> 2. I'd make my mom smarter. Then she would know it was my sister who did it and not me.
> 3. I would like for her to get rid of those invisible eyes on the back of her head.

I'm a good lazy mom...

You wouldn't believe what a HUGE help my 6 year old Little Darling was today. Not only did he unload the dishwasher and put them all away. But then (on his own accord) he loaded the dirty dishes and started the dishwasher for me!

THEN, as if that wasn't enough help... he sorted the laundry for me, (something I pay him 10 cents to do) moved the clothes over to the dryer and started another load! WHOA.

THEN, I had some bear faces that I needed cut out for a kids class I'm teaching tonight at church and he sat down at the table and cut all of them out for me! So I decided to pay him 50 cents for that.

Isn't he a great Little Darling? I'm such a good lazy mom. *ahem*

For Those Of You That Have Mashed Potatoes For Brains {A Lazy Mom Tip}

Today is yet another installment of our fabulous Lazy Mom Tips. Okay. Maybe I only think they are fabulous, but whatever.

For all of you moms out there who now have mashed potatoes for brains (you know who you are), this is a great one for you! I absolutely can NEVER remember to take certain things with me when I'm leaving the house. I walk out the door with that feeling of knowing I'm forgetting something, I just can't remember what!

If you find yourself in the same boat as me (mashed potato brains and can't remember what you were doing two seconds ago) then never fear! This simple Lazy Mom Tip is here to save the day!

Tape notes to your door! I started doing this shortly after I had kids going to preschool. You know how you get those notes sent home from school saying, "Friday is show n' tell. Bring in something that starts with the letter D." Yeah, like I'm going to remember that come Friday! So I either post the note to our back door right then, or I write myself a note and tape it up there.

Forgive me for stating the obvious, but the key is to make sure you tape the note to the door that you ALWAYS leave out of. This has saved me so many times people! I can't even count how many times we will be heading out the door and I go to open it and BAM! there's a note reminding me of something (school picture day.... don't forget to deposit that check.... get milk)! It's truly a life saver.

So, it's not a FABULOUS tip today. It's not glamorous. Shoot, it's not even worth leaving a comment over. BUT, if you put this tip into action you will thank me later. I promise.

A Tableware Basket {A Lazy Mom Tip}

It's that time again... time for another Lazy Mom Tip! YEA!!!! I know you are all beside yourselves in anticipation, so let's get right to it!

This Lazy Mom Tip is a simple one. I'm sure most of you probably have one of these, right?

Let me just tell you how great this little tableware basket is! I try to keep it stocked full of throw away stuff at all times for a couple of reasons....

First I'll mention the most obvious use for a tableware basket. We love to eat on our back patio when it's warm out. So our little basket of throwaways makes it easy to carry out to the patio.

Secondly, I HATE TO WASH DISHES. And it doesn't even matter if the dishwasher is empty and I can just throw them all in there to be washed, I STILL HATE IT.

My third reason? I keep it sitting out on our kitchen counter so that the kids can grab a plate if they need one and not risk dropping a real one and breaking it. They also love to grab yogurts and such out of the fridge and this way they can get a spoon out and throw it all away when they are finished. The real beauty of that is that I don't have to get up to help them get anything! See the definition of a lazy mom if you need to brush up on what it means to be one!

And my last reason for loving my little tableware basket so much is that when unexpected visitors come over I can order a pizza, grab my tableware basket and entertain them all outside so no one ever has to know how messy my house is!

What a LazyMom is NOT...

The essence of who a true lazymom is was precisely described here.

Be Doers!

"If you have extra clothes, you should share with those who have none. And if you have extra food, you should do the same." Luke 3:11

I was thinking about my oldest Little Darling's memory verse this morning and it made me think of this verse: "Do not merely listen to the Word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says." James 1:22

We had some pretty flowers left over on Sunday from a potluck we attended. We got sent home with a vase full of some. My husband had just recently bought me flowers (isn't he so sweet?) so we had "extra."

So I wanted my Little Darling to "do what the word says." He delivered our extra flowers to our elderly next door neighbor. She's in her 80's and is a widow. No telling the last time she got flowers delivered to her door.

I know I was challenged by his memory verse today! So this is just your friendly Lazy Mom reminder to be a "doer" today!

UPDATE: Much to our surprise, here's what happened after he delivered the flowers....

The other day when my oldest LD delivered the flowers to our elderly next door neighbor she was on the phone when he came to the door. Well, yesterday she came out to talk to my husband while he was outside working around the house. She told him that the day they delivered the flowers to her was the 10 year anniversary of her sons death. She was so touched that we had given her those flowers and said it was "a divine moment."

We think so too.

Things I've Always Wanted To Do (Part 2)

...but will probably never do...

11. Clean all the dead bugs out of my light fixtures.
12. Organize all of my daughters clips and bows so I can actually find the one I want.
13. Plant bulbs in the Fall so I can see them in the Spring.
14. Wash the outside of my windows.
15. Make jello. I just found 17 little boxes of the stuff pushed all the way to the back of my pantry. No really. I'm serious. 17 boxes.
16. Organize my books the way they do at the library. Then I can find the one I want when I need it instead of waiting years to uncover it somewhere.
17. Get all of my Christmas shopping done early.
18. Make a cheescake from scratch.
19. Finish the laundry. Does it ever end?
20. Hire a maid.

Lazy Mom Tip #7

For you lazy moms out there that have no memory left whatsoever, this tip is a good one for you. As long as you can remember to do it, that is!

When I throw clothes in the washing machine I can never remember if I've put something in there that needs to be hung dry. Usually it's my bras. And don't we all hate lumpy bras?

So one day I finished using a notepad of paper that had a magnet on the back of it. It was just the cardboard backer and the magnet. I was suddenly struck with one of those brief moments of brilliance that I occasionally have ~ why not stick it on the side of my washing machine and when I throw something in that needs to be hung dry I can move it to the front to remind me about it!

So that's what I did.

And I haven't had lumpy bras since!

By the way, I know that the cardboard backer looks alot like the pillsbury doughboy, but it isn't. It was a rabbit notepad. I'm now on the hunt to find a bra looking one. Or maybe I'll just create my own? Hmmm... maybe not.

Anyway! That's the tip for today. Go forth and cease to have lumpy bras and shruken shirts!
