Lazy Mom Tip #18

Oh my gosh, you guys... this could seriously be THE. BEST. LAZY. MOM. TIP. EVER!!!!

Recently my family and I took a 10 day vacation. The first day we had to be in the car for about 9 hours (not too bad considering that in the past we've done 20 hours straight). I had heard about a way to keep Little Darlings occupied in the car, but I was a little skeptical about it. We thought we'd give it a try though and boy howdy, did it ROCK!

As you'll see pictured below pipe cleaners are now my NEW favorite lazy mom travel item! I know it's shocking to think that pipe cleaners could keep a kid busy in the car. It's okay. I was a skeptic myself... until I tried it! Here is the proof that it works people....

My middle Little Darling particularly took a great liking to the pipe cleaners. He twisted them into all kinds of things... people, fish, tire swings, etc. He started arranging his creations all around him, including the above handles and the window area.

It seriously kept him busy the entire time he was awake in the car. It also kept my other LD's busy for most of the time, but none of them were nearly as creative as my middle LD!

[Side note: Last week we were at Kids Camp. We bought a pack of pipe cleaners while we were there and you should have seen the creations our pre-teens came up with! They made crowns, butterfly wings, wands, necklaces ... ALL kinds of cool things out of them!]

So now that you've heard this AWESOME lazy mom tip, you must, I said absolutely MUST, go get you a bag of pipe cleaners and try it yourself! It's the cheapest form of entertainment EVER ($1.24 for a bag of 100 at Walmart!).

  2. I had forgotten about these. In the past I had used them for quiet toys at church and they worked great!

  3. Hi there-found your blog from Home Sanctuary a couple of months ago. This tip is hilarious to me because when I was in high school I was extremely active in my youth group and went on every trip. And you know what I brought? Pipe cleaners. A 15 passenger van full of 14-18 year old kids making pipe cleaner creations. You never outgrow it.
