Raise your hand if
Noggin has served as babysitter for you ever?
Yes. Yes. I see that hand.
Very good. I, too, have used Noggin from time to time to keep my kiddos occupied while I take a shower or get the laundry switched out.
One of the shows my babes like is
Franklin. It's cute in a talking turtle sort of way. So the other week Noggin ran
Franklin and the Turtle Lake Treasure, a feature length movie. Natalie (my 5yo) started watching it but because of something we had to turn it off. I set the DVR to record it for her and only just got around to letting her watch it this morning.
It started off cute enough, but about half way through the story turned to searching for a
talisman (the treasure) that they needed to find so that it could be given to Franklin's granny for her healing.
Yep. For her healing. A talisman.
Now, I don't know your belief system and I respect that we may not agree on everything, BUT this
LazyMom site and all the authors here are Bible thumping
believers in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.
So that being said, I had a problem with my 5yo watching this Franklin movie that was teaching her to look to tailsmans and magic for physical healing. I turned it off, deleted it from the List, and explained why this was not a show she would be watching.
Our healings, physical, spiritual, and emotional, all come from God above.
Isaiah 53:4-5 (NIV)
4 Surely he took up our infirmities
and carried our sorrows,
yet we considered him stricken by God,
smitten by him, and afflicted.
5 But he was pierced for our transgressions,
he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was upon him,
and by his wounds we are healed.
Matthew 8:16-17 (NIV)
16When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to him, and he drove out the spirits with a word and healed all the sick.
17This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah:
"He took up our infirmities
and carried our diseases."
James 5:14-16 (NIV)
14Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord.
15And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven.
16Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.
As moms (and parents) we have been entrusted with these little ones. We are responsible for protecting and teaching them. Even if I use Noggin as a sitter from time to time, I have to be aware of what is on there. It's amazing how things just sneak in here and there. Our kids don't know the difference unless we tell them. Be very careful about what your little ones are watching, reading, and exposed to.
Like the old song goes...
Be careful little eyes what you see,
Be careful little eyes what you see,
For the Father up above is looking down in love,
Be careful little eyes what you see.
So my girl is now watching an episode of
WordWorld. I have yet to find a problem with spelling, but I'll let you know if I find one in the future.
