Green Tips

In honor of Earth Day today (and just because I'm lazy and didn't feel like putting together a new post), I thought I would post some "going green" tips that lazy mom Melis typed up back in November of 2007. (I'm not even kidding. It was THAT long ago!)  But what can I say for my fellow lazy mom friend?  She's been lazy, er, uh, busy rather.  In fact, she's currently in Spain on a missions trip and you can read all about that on her fabulous blog.

So this ones for you Melis!  Go Melis!

Oh, and it's also for the earth!  Go earth!

Oh, and it's also because I'm lazy.  Go me!

So here are the going green tips she wrote up for us fellow lazy moms a long time ago.

~Keep common household items that double as green cleaners on hand for everyday spills and messes: baking soda, white vinegar, cornstarch, baby powder, toothpaste, and Borax.

~Pay attention to your water bill. Fix leaky faucets in your house immediately--a 5 minute repair project can save gallons of water.

~Wrap your water heater in an insulate jacket. You can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 4,000 pounds and save on your water bill too.

~Reduce paper use by using rags and cloth napkins instead of paper towels and paper napkins.

~Keep cold air out by rolling fabric that matches your decor around sock bundles. Tie the ends with ribbons and place in front of exterior doors.

~Install energy-saving light bulbs and while your at it, swap out lamp shades for a quick seasonal update.

~Insulate your windows by adding acrylic energy panels to your existing windows to help reduse your energy bill.

~Warm up a room by giving curtains a seasonal update. Add warmer colors and be sure curtains have an inner lining that extends to the floor to block drafts.
