Happy Monday to you lazy moms!
I think I just heard about 10 of you say, "Oh... is it Monday?"
I would guess that the 10 of you who said that either have a newborn, or about three kids, three and under. So don't worry. I'm here for you. To tell you what day of the week you are on. You're going to make it!
So this Monday morning I wanted to post another fabulous Lazy Mom Tip! Because we need all the tips we can get to get through this thing called motherhood, am I right?
[This is the part where the 10 of you who didn't know it was Monday say, "YES!"]
Let's try that again...
Because we need all the tips we can get to get through this thing called motherhood, riiiiiight?
"YES!"
Good job!
(See I told you I was here for you)
So for our next Lazy Mom Tip is this.... COLOR CODE EVERYTHING.
[Again... another good thing for you 10 moms. If you see a color, you'll know who it belongs to while you're still half asleep.]
You may have caught the drift of this tip on Lazy Mom Tip #1, where you may have noticed my trays are different colors.
Yes. I've been color coding things for quite a while now. I assigned each child a color several years ago and we've never looked back.
My oldest is blue, middle is green and my daughter is pink (of course). Why did I do this? Well, for a couple of reasons... first of all it cuts down on the arguing. Just one look at whatever color it is tells them immediately WHO'S it is. Second of all, just one look at the color tells ME who's it is. :) So I know who to call for to pick it up!
So what are some things I've color coded???
- food trays (from lazy mom tip #1)
- bowls
- water bottles
- ice packs (that go in their lunches for school)
- techno gadget cords (from lazy mom tip #29)
- bag chairs
- toothbrushes
This may even be a good idea for sheet sets for each child and laundry baskets of clothes to put away! See?! Color coding is endless!
Now, every once in a while I can't find my kids' colors in something I want to color code, so we have to make adjustments. But everyone still has a different color so it works even if that's the case.
So why not make your world a brighter place? Give each child a color and make your life easier. Amen?
[This is where the 10 of you say, "Amen."]
So what are some things you could color code that I didn't list above?

We color code toothbrushes, but haven't gotten to the point of coloring coding much else... would be a good idea to start soon, though!
ReplyDeleteWe do towels here...and I use colored Sharpies to write each person's activities on the family calendar. I also tend to color code summertime toys. Bubble bottles, balls, etc.
ReplyDeleteAmen. I think that is funny- and I can see the wisdom. I do get a little mixed up as to the day- - - I guess that is a perk and a con to staying home all week- but, yes, I may incorporate some of that.
ReplyDeleteClothes! I have a 7-year-old (tiny) and a 2-year-old (thick) who are about the same size. So color coding their clothes would sure help me on laundry day (i.e., everyday).
ReplyDeleteSuch a sensible idea! Especially for "bigger" families.
ReplyDeleteQuestion: do your kids ever argue over colors?
stephanie@metropolitanmama.net
Great idea!! This could have saved many arguments in my home through the years!!
