Lazy Mom Tip #37

So the other day I sent out a plea for your best baby/toddler tips because well, we only have like two of them on this beautiful lazy site.

*sigh*

Then lo and behold, right after I wrote that award winning post pleading for your help, I stumbled upon a GREAT baby tip and I'm SUPER excited about sharing it with you!!!

Plus! Things are really looking up in the baby/toddler tip department on this here site because I've gotten several good ones from lazy moms just like you!  Whoo-hooo!

I'm hoping that these upcoming tips (and today's tip) will put me back in the good graces of all you moms with preschoolers and that you'll all forgive me for being so neglectful of baby/toddler tips.

I repent.

So.... here you go. I think you're gonna like it! A lot.

When my kids were babies, night time accidents (especially with the boys) was common. Diapers inevitably fail when they've been on all night or the baby spits up all over the crib and you suddenly find yourself bumbling through the night half asleep looking for a new crib sheet and a way to clean up the mattress before you put it down.

And you do this all while holding a crying baby.

And all while Lazy Dad is fast asleep. (Can I get a witness?)

But not any more!

There's no need to go through that night time horribleness anymore! Not when you double your crib sheets on the bed and put a mattress pad protector BETWEEN them!

When you employ this new double-the-crib-sheet tip, here's how your new night time accidents will go...

Baby spits up or diaper fails.

Baby cries.

Lazy Mom stumbles into room and holds baby in one arm.

With the other arm Lazy Mom rips off nasty sheets and mattress protector, keeping the second bottom sheet still on.

Lazy Mom cleans up baby and puts back to bed.

Lazy Mom stumbles back to her own bed and crashes.

Lazy Dad never even knows this night time event ever took place.

The End.

See?! This tip works in REAL life situations as the above clearly demonstrates for us all.

And if for some reason it doesn't go according to the above demonstration, then we are not legally responsible, mkay?

SooOOoo, got any more great baby/toddler tips to share?  I'd still love to hear them!

  1. Heh, I've been doing that little trick since day one in the pack-n-play. It just never occurred to me to do that in the crib!

  2. My son will be two tomorrow, so we are past the spitting up phase. However, we were always dealing with the peeing through the diaper issue. So, I got a size larger than what he regularly would wear in the Gerber plastic training pants. We still use Huggies Night Time diapers. However, then we put the training pants on top then his pj bottoms, and so far so good. Keeping my fingers crossed!!

  3. GREAT TIP!!! While my Lazy Dad is happily snoring away, I often fantasize about pelting him with a pillow. HARD!

  5. We're even lazier. We put a waterproof pad on top, and just switch it out when there is an accident.

  7. We took the pads Karen posted about, cut them into fourths or sixths and used them as changing pads anywhere in the house. They rolled up into my "diaper basket" really easily, and I could throw a clean one in the diaper bag super quickly.

I've also heard that putting your son's diaper on backwards will keep him from peeing through, but we never tried it.

  8. I'll take that lazy crib sheet idea and take it up a notch. I have about 9 crib sheets and various padding to go under. Just know that jersey knit sheets are the stretchiest. I have had 8 sheets/ padding on the crib mattress at once many times. Kind of puts new meaning into "lazy" but changing crib sheets makes me insane. Doing multiple layers makes for less work

  9. I love your ideas! I look forward to learning more!

  10. We keep all the sheets under the bed they belong to in small under-the-bed boxes.
Everyone has three boxes under their bed. One for out of season clothes, one for extra sheets and pillow cases and one for whatever that person's age requires (ie extra diapers under the crib, toys that are out of rotation under the toddler bed, books and misc. stuffs under the master bed and extra blankets and pillows under the guest bed) When I need a sheet in the middle of the night or just on a daily basis I can get it from under the bed, saving myself a trip to the linen closet where you have to sort out which sheet is right.
