Let me tell you a story.
A story of love... of hate... of stickiness.
Yes, let me tell you a little story about peanut butter. (bet you didn't see that coming)
Peanut butter and I go way back. Suffice it to say, I love it. I love it's yumminess in my tummy, I love it's peanut-y taste, I love the way it sticks to my ribs so I'm not hungry for a long time.
Yes, there's lots to love.
BUT.
(and this is where the hate part of this story comes in)
I do not love all the ingredients in peanut butter. And haven't for a while now.
You see, when I met my husband and we started dating, he was on an "all-natural" eating kind of kick. And he introduced me to the horrors of ingredient labels. But that's another story for another time (aren't you lucky).
So I quickly discovered that if my love affair with peanut butter was to remain, I was going to have to get rid of the ingredients I hated in them.
Enter natural peanut butters.
I loved that they only had peanuts and salt listed as an ingredient (another love part of this story) however, I hated that the oil would naturally separate and you'd have to stir it to get the oil all back in place (another hate part of this story, see how consistent I am?).
For YEARS I would put up with the whole stir-the-peanut-butter-when-you-buy-it thing, but enough was enough already!
One day I walked in to Walmart and lo and behold I found Skippy Natural peanut butter sitting on their pretty little shelves.
The part that caught my attention was the part that says, "No need to stir!"
Uh, yeah. Sign me up for that one!
So I took Skippy Natural home and we feel madly in love.
It's a beautiful story, is it not?
But guess what?
LUCKY for you the story doesn't end there!
Because Skippy has a new natural peanut butter out and it's called Skippy Naturals WITH HONEY!
Could you die?!
Well you could if you like honey in your peanut butter.
And I have to admit that I have never, and I repeat NEVER, have liked peanut butter with honey in it. I'm just not a fan.
But when Skippy sent me some coupons to try their new natural peanut butter for free I said "Ka-ching! Sure thing."
Or something like that.
Anyway, here is the line-up of their current Natural peanut butters....
You now all know that this lazy family has already been a long time fan of the Skippy Natural Creamy peanut butter, but did you know that there is also a Skippy Natural SUPER CHUNKY one for those of you who like some crunch in their peanut butter life.
(Isn't this post all interesting and stuff?)
And let me just say that before I went through the whole "Natural Peanut Butter" thing in life, I was a super chunk kind of girl.
For peanut butter, not for me.
Although I am sort of super chunky.
But I digress.
Chunky peanut butters just didn't work out to well with us when we had the whole "stir the oil back in" phase of peanut butter life. So we abandoned it and went to creamy which seemed to stir in better.
WELL NOT ANY MORE.
(Aren't you so glad you read this blog?)
With Skippy Natural's "no need to stir" mentality we can definitely put pretty little super chunk back in our peanut butter repertoire. She's nothing but goodness. And I have to say we had forgotten how good chunky peanut butter could be.
ANYWAY, with our line-up of peanut butters sitting at our house, I decided to have a taste test. The Lazy Dad and the kids (does that make them the lazy kids?) got in on it too.
We all taste tested the three Natural kinds of Skippy peanut butter spread across a good ol' saltine cracker (a whole wheat one, mind you) like this...
(Do my hands look super chunky? I've been trying to work on that. *sigh*)
Mmmm, peanut butter on a saltine cracker... there may not be anything better. Seriously, you have to try it if you haven't before. That's how I grew up on peanut butter.
So let me tell you the results of The Lazy Family's taste test.
Skippy Natural Creamy - ***** (five stars)
Everyone loves it in our lazy household.
Skippy Natural Chunky - **** (four stars)
Everyone loved it but my one son who said, "Mom, you know I don't like nuts." Oh right, sorry.
Skippy Natural with Honey - a surprising ***** (five stars!)
No one was more surprised than I was! I mean I already told you that I'm not a peanut butter with honey kind of fan. But people, get thee to a store and buy thee this stuff already. It's THAT good. I liken it to honey roasted peanuts that you buy in that long tube at the convenient store.
Super yum-ness.
Even The Lazy Dad was like, "Wow. That stuff is good. I really like that a lot." And seeing that I didn't have to even ASK him for his opinion, and seeing that I have NEVER heard him say something like that over ANYTHING I've EVER made EVER, I'd say that's pretty darn good.
My kids all loved it as well and so did I! Shocker!
Soooooo, that's the down low on Skippy Natural peanut butter. Aren't you SO glad you took the time to read this blog post today?
I thought so.

I heard if you store jars upside down, the oil will be on the bottom when you open it... i'm not sure if the rest of the peanut butter would end up dry though. I obviously haven' tried this myself.
ReplyDeleteThis is too funny! I was making myself lunch before sitting down to read blogs. I opened a new jar of natural peanut butter and thought "I wonder how this could be easier?" as oil spilled, and it's runny but I know the bottom will still be a rock. I was going to do a google search or blog and ask if anyone knew of an easier way but...I read your blog! So now I don't have to go researching. Too good timing!! *goes to add skippy to her shopping list*
ReplyDeleteoh, so that's the way to know if peanut butter is natural. all peanut butter brands in my country are like this - the oil separates from the peanut cream.
ReplyDeleteglad to know that there's a brand out there that espouses the "no-stir" campaign. i wonder when it'll be available in the philippines...
You won a award on my blog :) Please check it out here!! http://ohnoessockmonkeys.blogspot.com/2010/07/my-first-award-for-real-yo.html

ReplyDeleteI love natural pb, too, even the stir kind :)
I *heart* PB.....especially spread on a cinnamon graham cracker.
ReplyDeleteI will have to try this, the oil oil separating thing got me before, it kind of made me lose my appetite for p-nut butter. We'll see
