Let me show you two pictures of what was going on at my house for part of the day yesterday.
Here's my middle child painting....
Doesn't he look all happy and clean and having fun? Well surprisingly that part is true.
But doesn't it also look like I'm an awesome mom that got all the paints out and the apron and set him all up for this fun day of painting?
That's where you'd be wrong.
Now, look at this picture from yesterday....
Here my kids (and the neighbor kids) are slip and sliding in my backyard.
Don't they look happy and wet and like their having fun? Well good, because they are.
But doesn't it also look like I was a super mom and dragged this out of the garage and got it all set up for them and then went above and beyond super momness and invited the neighbor kids over to join in the fun as well?!
Yeah. Didn't happen that way. At all.
Basically my kids got all these things out and set them all up and did all this for themselves. I just gave them a measly "yes" you can do it.
But if I had posted these pictures on my blog and had told you that this was my day yesterday wouldn't you all have assumed I was an amazing super mom? And that I had done all of this for my kids?
And you would have been wrong. Very wrong.
And I just couldn't do that to you wonderful lazy moms. I just couldn't let you think I was a super mom when I'm clearly not. I just couldn't let you all be wrong in your assumptions. And I just couldn't go against one of the very things we stand for here at I'm a Lazy Mom which is being REAL about motherhood. The ups and the downs.
You're welcome.
So why am I saying all of this? Because in my opinion the ups of being a mom are blogged about a lot. The downs? Not so much. And I'm all about blogging about the downs as much as the ups. Although I even tend to post about the ups much more often.
So today I wanted to tell you that things are not always what they seem in blog land (or on Facebook for that matter!). Sure, my kids had a fun day, but it wasn't really because of me!
But, no, we here at I'm a Lazy Mom are watching out for you. The real moms out there. We've got your back. We'll always do our best to post about how real we are too. And we do this to help you realize that you're as normal a mother as the next mom. With ups and downs like the rest of us.
Plus I just have to tell you that I think it's totally awesome that my kids are old enough to do all of this stuff for themselves! I mean, how great is that?! For those of you who have preschoolers, just you wait! Your day is coming!!
See? This blog post didn't even end the way you thought it should, did it? Be careful [insert creepy music here] things are not always what they seem! Muahahahaha!

alright number 1 I was never lucky enough to have cool paint like that! I only had the sucky little yellow water color things that lasted through about one paint then all the colors got mixed together and 2 did your kids clean up the mess afterwards too??
ReplyDeleteI'm getting there... elayna can turn the water on and fill the pool and then turn the water off. I still have to get the pool out for them and clean it (it gets gross by the shed) because it's too heavy for them. Urg. one day! :)
ReplyDeleteI love that your kids aren't lazy. All the kids I know would NOT invest that much effort into play time. TV and video games seem to be the "activity" of choice instead. I have a 20-month old, but I sure hope he doesn't turn out as lazy as his mama!
ReplyDeletehey, way to leave out the moms of babies and toddlers again! Boo. :(
ReplyDeleteI was going to email you my lazy mom tip for toddlers - using a timer to get him to go to bed. And then I realized I got the timer tip from you!
