So I don't know about you, but when I think of Christmas I think of all the yummy Christmas goodies I love to eat.
I also think about the ten pounds I'll put on eating those yummy Christmas goodies, the pants that won't fit because of it, and the hours of remorse I'll feel, but that's totally beside the point.
Today I thought I'd share with you some of my favorite Christmas goodies that are ALSO Lazy Mom Recipes! (You know you love me.)
Buuuuuut, I was too lazy to actually make these goodies and take pictures and write all kinds of witty stuff about them, so instead I'll be showing you where to find these recipes around the world wide web (we do still call it that right? It suddenly seems so old fashion for some reason).
It's terribly lazy of me to do it this way, but hey! It's four days until Christmas and I've got company coming! And you haven't seen the state of my house recently! And I've got some shopping left to do! And in the words of my daughter's Kindergarten teacher last year... "You get what you get and don't throw a fit!"
So there.
First up?
Beki over at The Rusted Chain posted a while back about Graham Cracker Toffee. It was a recipe my mom used to make, but everytime I asked my mom for the recipe she didn't remember ever making them.
It's complicated.
So anyway, when I saw Beki's post about it I was thrilled!

Next up?
Sausage Balls. I love 'em. And they are another recipe my mom used to make for Christmas. AND, she actually remembers this one.

My next Christmas fav?
Holiday Pretzel Treats. Uh, YUM. These I adore, truly. And no, my mom didn't used to make these. These are a more recent discovery, so she has no recollection of these little goodies and rightly so (this time).

This one isn't a Lazy Mom Recipe per say (it has more than 5 ingredients) BUT it is so good and so easy to make I'm still calling it one.
Lady Fingers (or Rolled Pecan Cookies)
Lazy Dad's family literally fights (and I mean fights) over these cookies. I grew up eating them too and they are definitely worth fighting over. No doubt about it.
I can't eat them with pecans since I'm allergic to them, so I make them with walnuts instead OR you can leave the nuts out completely and they still taste just as good.
You can shape them into fingers, crescents, or balls. Or I guess whatever you feel like shaping them into.
No matter how you shape them, just EAT THEM. Mmm, mmm.

And there you have it. Four Christmas Goodies that I adore and are LAZY to make.

Aaand now I'm hungry. I feel like the internets are conspiring against me and my goal to not gain weight during the holidays. (World wide web DOES sound totally antiquated now, doesn't it? My 90 year old grandma just calls it the internets, so I've adopted that.)
ReplyDeleteAs far as a favorite relatively lazy Christmas treat? I've recently become a an of bourbon balls. Booze & cookies! Merry Christmas to everyone! ;-)
My post about them here: http://unlikelyorigins.blogspot.com/2010/12/this-week-in-food.html
Ooooo I am gonna try the toffee and the pretzels! They look so yummy!
ReplyDeleteYou just made me think of ham balls which my family LOVES and my in-laws, who I live closer to, have never heard of. Christmas food is great!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the shout out! I have GOT to try the sausage balls.
ReplyDeleteI do the holiday pretzels... they are always a hit! Thanks for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteWe always make a fudge, it goes real quick. We also make a Swedish treat which is kind of like caramel/toffee. We also just melt chocolate and add nuts, corn flakes, puffed rice or similar things.

Okay, the holiday pretzels are cute and tasty and all but seriously, now that they make pretzel M & M's, I'm not sure that they were worth my time! lol. They taste JUST like them!!
ReplyDeleteThese are all the same thing we had at Christmas time--minus the pretzel cookies, insert Texas Trash. Must be an East Texas thing.
ReplyDeleteLove sausage balls. Except instead of water we use some hot sauce. So good.
ReplyDeleteWe make the toffee with Saltine Crackers instead of Graham Crackers and you would swear it was really toffee! It is called Cristmas Crack and it fits it. I make it every Christmas and have make tons of it LOL! I use Zesta brand Saltines I liek them best of all. I am Making the Graham Crakers one too this year thank you for the recipe!
