Great Lazy Recipe Tip!

I got a great lazy mom recipe tip from a sweet friend of mine.  You simply MUST read what she wrote me and then you simply MUST visit her blog.  She's expecting her first baby in about a month and her blog is just too entertaining NOT to read.

Okay, here's her great lazy recipe tip!
Your latest Lazy Mom Recipe reminded me of a lazy food approach that I take all the time. In fact, I'm doing it tomorrow...basically whenever salad dressings ( read: "marinades" ) are on sale I pick up a couple...such as Honey Dijon, or Zesty Italian...or my personal fav ( though its hard to find these days) a "Lime Thai" made by Kraft, but really get whatever tickles your personal fancy. Anyway, when I'm DE-motivated about making dinner I throw some chicken in my crock pot, I pour a goodly (if its a whole chicken I suggest the whole thing) amount of the salad dressing over the top and I let that baby cook on low all day. Then I serve it with a salad and bread or maybe rice and whatever other veggies I've got laying around.

I know this is not a new concept, but I was pretty proud of the discovery myself so please don't burst my bubble and tell me that EVERYONE'S DOING IT.

Love, Abigail

So after Abigail emailed me this idea, I promptly emailed this back to her...

Everyones doing it.

*bubble busted*

Just kidding, I couldn't resist!

That's a great idea! I have only done chicken in italian dressing, and have never really ventured far from there. Love this!

You're going to be a great lazy mom for sure!

Aren't I such a nice supportive friend?  I thought so too.

So go do Abigail's great idea for dinner tonight and then visit her adorable blog and give her your BEST mommy advice, mkay?

I normally don't do this...

Seriously.

For some reason we just don't normally participate in various blog awards that you sweet, wonderful, loving people award us here at I'm a Lazy Mom.  Maybe we don't do anything with them because we're, well, LAZY. But please know that we truly appreciate every one of them and feel very blessed when you tell us you gave us one (so thank you!!!).

However.

Today I am making ONE exception because I just couldn't NOT say something about our most current blog award.  It made me smile.  It made me giggle.  It made me think that maybe there is some good quality posts here on I'm a Lazy Mom.

Here is our latest blog award courtesy of The Bush League Cook.

Isn't that just too sweet (and a little funny)?!

We have substance!  Yes we do!  We have substance, how 'bout you?!

Oh my!

That cheer just slipped up out of no where didn't it?

Excuse me!!

But anyway, I just thought this award was too cute to pass up.  I mean, it made me smile and giggle, remember?  It made me stop and think to myself, "Hey! Someone realizes there's more to I'm a Lazy Mom other than random musings of weirdness." Er, something like that.

So thanks.  Thanks for thinking we have substance.  Thanks for making me smile and giggle and think.

Thinking is hard for me sometimes.

I'm a mom.

I don't have much brains left

So it's easier just not to think.

Good grief.  Did you just read what I wrote?  Maybe we don't have substance after all.....

OH. MY. WORD.

I saw this video today and I just don't know what to think!!!

So quick, someone tell me your opinion of the Huggies Jean Diaper so I can formulate my own!

Teaching Kids about God (Lazy Tips)

Hey Lazy Moms! This is Jenilee, Stacey's IRL Friend. Yep, I actually know the Lazy Mom herself! And, I have a secret for you. She is SO NOT lazy in the way you think of the word “lazy”.

(Shh... don't tell her I told you. Really...)

But, we have something in common... well, a few things actually, but one of the many things that we both love is EASY tips that make life, uhmmm... easier.

Which makes us both perfect lazy moms. And perfect friends!

Something else we have in common is our passion to raise our kids in the knowledge and love of Jesus!

So, who am I? And, why am I here?

Well, I am a mommy to 3 girls (who are camping buddies to Stacey's 3 kiddos) and married to a crazy, wild and sometimes weird Children's Pastor named Jeremy.

I am writing here today because Stacey and I swapped blogs for the day! She is writing over at The Goodwin Family today, and hosting a GREAT giveaway I might add, while I am writing to you Lazy Moms. I've got some great, easy, LAZY tips for teaching your kids about God on a daily basis.

But, the tips start with a story...

“Play it again! Play it again!”

Again? Really?

“Ok...”, I told Elayna, my seven year old daughter. She was listening to Newsboys sing “When the Boys Light Up” for the 10th time that hour. We were driving to my parent's house and Newsboys was the music of choice for her. In fact, she loves that whole CD.

Comical, since Newsboys was a favorite of mine since they first joined the Christian music world in the early 90s with their song “Shine!”.

Although I love their new album and even saw them in concert last winter, I can't say that listening to one of their songs over and over and over is what I'd choose on a long car ride now that I'm a mom of three girls and reaching 30 years old. But, it's what Elayna wanted to listen to. Her sweet little voice singing, “When we walk in His footsteps, it's a brighter day. When we follow His word, He lights the way. When we lift up His banner and raise it high, we light up the sky!”

As I listened to her sing the words of the song, I thought, “There is nothing else I'd rather her be singing right now.”

Nothing else would better fill her mind. No other words were as important as what she was hearing, memorizing and learning from the music filling the van.

In my role as a mom, I have the opportunity to daily teach my girls about God. Deuteronomy 6:4-8 says, “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.” Moms, it's not just an opportunity, it's a command.

Psalm 78:4 says, “...we will tell the next generation...” When I read that verse in Psalms, I can't help but remember the importance of teaching our kids about God.

So, how do we do that? In the midst of our busy lives, how do we fit in a Bible lesson or family devotion. The pretty picture of the whole family sitting down at the dinner table while Dad reads the Bible just isn't possible for some of us.

I have put together a Lazy Mom list of ways we can get God's Word into the hearts of our kids while they are young. A list that might help you find a few things that are doable for your family.

  • Listen to Christian music and talk about what the songs mean! Fill your car, your house, your kid's rooms with solid music that will move them to understand God more. Choosing this type of music over the latest Disney heart-throb or some young cute thing singing some crazy love song will build of love for worshipful music in their young hearts. Not to mention teach them about God at the same time!
  • Post Scripture verses around your house. Even the little ones can learn short pieces of verses to hide in their hearts. Seeing the verses, even if they can't read them, will help your kids sense the importance of God's Word in your home.
  • Choose an easy age-appropriate devotional to use at bedtime. This time is invaluable for our family. Whether I read it quickly with the girls, Elayna reads it to her sisters or Jeremy reads it before bed, the girls are learning a great habit of getting into God's Word! Our family likes “God and Me for Girls” by Legacy Press. They have one for ages 2-5 and 6-9 as well as a version for boys. Each devotion is short (perfect for us lazy moms!) and has 2 or 3 questions to ask your kids with a little prayer at the end.
  • Let your kids see YOU do your devotions. Sit where they are playing or coloring or reading, get over the fact that they are going to interrupt you and get in God's Word where they can see what you are doing. Kids learn by seeing! They might even ask you what you are reading and you can share with them what God is showing you. Even if they don't completely understand, they get more than we give them credit for and God will reveal Himself in their young lives.
  • Pray with them. About everything. However small the prayer, you are teaching them to go to God first and that He is a personal God who cares about the small things.
Go back and read Deuteronomy 6. This passage of scripture taught me to get creative with the job of teaching my kids about God. Everyday things become the tools we can use to take time to pour spiritually into our kids lives.

Playing, driving, waiting in line at the store, eating dinner, getting ready for bed... all open doors into our kids lives and hearts. All true lazy mom ways to ensure we have taught our kids something important about God each and every day.

Feel free to follow me over at The Goodwin Family where I share more about our crazy, busy and fun lives or at My Awake Journey where I write about my personal journey with Christ.

For more about Godly Parenting, you can read here and here. I've also written about Motherhood here if you'd like to read more!

Thanks, Stacey, for the blog swap! So much fun! I look forward to meeting some more Lazy Moms!

Shout Out!

Friday I posted a lazy way to make Pudding Pops that a reader sent in for us.

Yesterday I posted an even lazier way to make those pudding pops.

TODAY, I'm posting a link to a lazy mom that tried out the lazy, lazy way (not to be confused with the lazy way) of making pudding pops.

Check it out!

Pudding Pop Help

Yesterday I wrote a post about Lazy Pudding Pops that was sent in to us.

It is a SUPER lazy way to make your own pudding pops.  But low and behold if there wasn't a lazy mom named Ashley out there that came up with an even LAZIER way to make them.  Yes, my friends, she lazified something that was already lazy (and I think I love her for it).

Here's what she had to say...
A little more expensive, but even easier... buy the prepackaged pudding cups. Take top off, insert stick, and freeze! :)
COULD. YOU. DIE.

I'm totally in awe of the laziness.

Oh, and while we're talking about pudding pops, lazy mom Debbie also left a comment and is in desperate need of pudding help.  Here's what she had to say...
They don't even have pudding mixes in England. Any lazy recipes on how to make your own?
SoOOooOO, I'm counting on one of you out there to know the answer to her question because uh, I'm, uh, a little, uh, lacking, uh, in this area.

Mkay?

Thanks.

Lazy Pudding Pops

Is it hot where you live?  Because we had an unusually warm spring here.  In fact, it's been so unusually warm here, it just meshed right into Summer and we didn't notice the difference.

But I'm NOT complaining.  Nuh-uh.  This born and raised Texan is LOVING the unsual warm temps.  It blesses my little heart and it makes me think of home.  And besides, it's still not NEARLY as hot as Texas temps.  So nope. No complaints.

But I'm going to bet that you all are not all from Texas yourself (I know, I'm a crazy gambler) and you are all probably feeling the heat somewhat.

A few weeks ago I wrote a post about how I lazified homemade popsicles.  And low and behold if a lazy mom out there didn't send me a lazy PUDDING pop recipe to make!  I am super excited about it for a couple of reasons...
  1. I tend to have random packages of pudding on hand.  Especially now that I know how to make these things. *sigh*
  2. Who doesn't LOVE a chocolatey, delicious pudding pop?!
  3. Now I don't have to buy them from Walmart.
  4. It's easy enough a lazy mom can do it!
So let's POP to it, shall we?

[insert cheesey laugh here]

Okay, I promise not to make any more stupid jokes.

Maybe.

Lazy Pudding Pops
(sent in by Julie)

Instant pudding mix
2 cups of milk
popsicle molds (or dixie cups like she says)

Beat pudding mix and milk with hand mixer 2 minutes. Spoon into dixie cups and plop a popsicle stick in the middle and pop in the freezer. Once frozen, peel cup off and enjoy. Easy-peasy!!

And boy howdy, isn't that a lazy recipe?!

Just THINK of the possibilities!  I mean, just look at all the flavors you could make?!  And if you aren't feeling TOO lazy, then maybe you could make half and half's like the one pictured above!

So there you have it.  Go plunder through your pantry and find that random pudding mix and make some of these, mkay?  Your kids will thank me, er, I mean you for it! Because that's who they should thank, YOU, not me. Mmm, hmm.

Lazy Mom Tip #35

Today is the day for Lazy Mom Tip #35!

Are you excited?

Because I am!

I love our Lazy Mom Tips and today is a good one!

Well, at least it is if you like nap time at your house!!!

Because today I wanted to share with you how to get your kids to "nap" even after they've outgrown it.

Yes. When my kids each stopped taking naps it was a sad, sad day.  I know a lot of you aren't there yet, but you just wait because it will happen.  And it's a sad, sad day when it does.

So what's a lazy mom to do when nap times dry up?!

Well I'll tell you.

Enter Lazy Mom Tip #35....

FOF Time!

huh?

FOF Time stands for "Feet Off Floor" time!

It's a little something we picked up at our state's Kids Camp that my husband runs every summer.  FOF Time is a time when the kids (at camp and at my house) have to go to their rooms and get on their beds and have Feet Off Floor Time.

The kids can read books, play quietly with toys or whatever they want, as long as they stay in their beds (and keep their feet off the floor!)

Now I know what you're thinking.... this will never work for me!  My kids will never stay in their beds!

But listen to me!

My kids are 5, 7 and 8 and IT. WORKS.

One of the reasons I think it works is because there is no "nap" word anywhere in FOF Time.  If you drop the word nap and call it something cool, it will work.  It makes them feel like a "big kid" and stuff.

And my kids don't really nap during FOF Time (although occasionally one does drop off to sleep) but FOF Time isn't really about them.  It's more about giving me some ME time!

Our FOF Time lasts anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour at our house and it gives me some down time so that I can face the late afternoon/evening with my sanity intact.

And my kids like it!  *gasp!*

It's true! They actually like FOF Time.

So if you're kids are nearing the sad, sad day of dropping their naps all together, then don't break the habit of afternoon down time!  Simply call it FOF Time and keep them in the habit of it!  For younger kids you may need to set a timer in their room and tell them not to get out of their bed until it goes off.  Or if you're kids really won't stay in their beds, then put a baby gate in the door jam and let them have "room time" instead.

At any rate, it gives us lazy moms the time WE need so that we can be better moms the rest of the day!

Fun Family Time (Review and Giveaway)

I'm so excited to tell you all about a fun new game my family played last night!

So sit down, relax, and listen up!

Who wouldn't love a game that lets you eat pizza while you play it? Because a fun new game called "Pizza Night" sure let's you!

Pizza Night is a Family Dinner Game designed to add fun to your regular family pizza nights!  Plus it's just plain cute!  It comes in a "pizza box" and the game pieces are shaped like a pizza.  Too.  Cute.

But what I loved about this game is the mission behind it.  Family Time Fun's goal is to bring your family closer together and create conversation around the dinner table.  Isn't that great?

Plus, the game is just fun and easy enough that my five year old could do it.  I just had to help her read her card.

The kids really enjoyed this game.  Each card has something you have to accomplish all while sitting at the table.  One of our favorites from last nights game play was, "Throw this game card up in the air and let it land on the table. Whoever it points to does not have to help clean up after dinner."

So my son threw it up in the air and when it landed on the table it was pointing to our 5 year old.  Which made her pump her fists in the air and yell, "YES!"

Another one we liked from last night was, "Describe a place your family has visited without naming it.  See if anyone can guess where it is."

My son said one word for his description, "Hot."

We all yelled, "Texas!"

Each card had us laughing, that's for sure.

The kids gave this game a hearty "two thumbs up." And when I asked them what they thought of it my daughter said, "it was pizza-ee!"

Don't they look all happy and stuff? (Nevermind we had to tickle the guy in blue to get him to smile for the camera).

But, guess what????

You can eat pizza and look this happy too, because someone is going to win this fun game for their family pizza night!

Whooo-hooooo!

Lazy Pulled Chicken

Lazy Moms... oh, and Lazy Dads (because I know there's a few of you out there!).  Have I got a LAAAAAZY recipe for you today!

This was something that I actually thunked up all by mythelf and I'm quite proud of it.

Although I should probably be a little bit embarrassed seeing that it's the easiest thing in the world to make, like, ever.

But humor me, will you?  Pat me on the back and tell me I've come up with something brilliant because I feel like I have.   Mainly because my husband said he liked this meal I made.  Which is something that never. ever. happens.

Ever.

I sort of stumbled across this idea by total accident.  It all started with needing to get in the freezer.  We have one of those refrigerators that has the freezer drawer on the bottom.  *side note* I LOVE my refrigerator.  It's probably my favorite thing in the kitchen. *end side note*

So it was late afternoon and I needed in my freezer.  However because of a big ice cream container we got the night of my sons last baseball game of the season I had moved a container of shredded chicken to the bottom drawer and it was reeking havoc.

It made the drawer not open and it was driving me nutty.  So I said, "Enough! Because you're being a pesky chicken I'm moving you to the refrigerator for dinner tonight!"  Followed by lots of evil laughter.

Once the moment passed and I was walking away from the refrigerator I realized what I had done.  I'd really punished myself.  Because now I had to come up with a way to use shredded chicken for dinner.  Ugh!  What's a Lazy Mom to do?!?!?

Then brilliance took over.  (That happens to me a lot in case you were wondering).  (I'm also very humble about my brilliance, you just can't tell).  (Will I ever stop writing in parenthesis?).

Soooooo, to make a long story about a lazy recipe short (it's too late for that, isn't it?) come dinner time I dumped the half frozen shredded chicken into a pan, poured BBQ sauce all over it and put a lid on it.  It did it's thing while I pulled out some buns we had on hand and low and behold, we had Pulled Chicken Sandwiches! (As opposed to Pulled Pork Sandwiches in case you were wondering).

(There I go writing in parenthesis again).

(I think I need help).

Anyway, I was so excited that I accidently made something the whole family loved (well, minus our five year old) that I took a picture of it!  Here it is in all it's mouth watering goodness....

And in case you missed it, here's how you make it....

Pulled Chicken Sandwiches

Shredded Chicken (I had some left over from a rotisserie chicken we didn't finish)
BBQ Sauce

Put the chicken in a pan and cover with sauce.  Cook on low heat.  Stir occassionally so as not to burn.  When heated through put on buns, bread, or whatever you want and eat.

And there you have it!  Something so easy even a lazy mom can make it!

The next time you have leftover chicken from something (like a rotisserie chicken) just shred it up and use this lazy recipe for the leftovers.

A Juicy Confession

As most of you know confessions around here are meant to help us all feel better in our quest of motherhood.  It bonds us together, it gives us a chuckle.  It makes us think, "Hey! Maybe I'm not as bad of a mom as SHE is."

Just kidding about that last one.

I think.

No really, it makes us all realize that that "Super Mom" mentality is just that... a mentality, not a reality.  I mean, we can't all be perfect mothers all the time.  It's just not humanly possible.

Nothing proves our lazy mom confession philosophy more than this confession I received a few days ago from an anonymous mother.  So sit back and enjoy....
I pulled a lazy mom today. We had been really busy the last few days and had a lot planned for the days a head. Today though, NOTHING planned. I really wanted to get some things done around the house (and maybe relax for a bit on the couch) so when my kids wanted to play outside, I had to think quick. I told them that there was an air quality warning on the news this morning so we couldn't go outside. So we got some things done around the house and later ("when the warning was lifted") we were able to go out and play.
Hahahahaha!

Two thoughts on this confession.

Thought number 1: Doesn't being a mom make us DESPERATE sometimes.  And we all know that desperate times call for desperate measures.

Thought number 2: We haven't had a confession THIS juicy since our original confession.  And okay, this one was kind of funny.

There.  Now don't you feel better as a mom?

Then maybe you should share your confessions with the rest of us so you'll feel even better!  You can learn how to submit them here.

A New Confession

About a week ago I had a confession emailed to me.  And I thought it may be one you preggo working mamas can relate to so I figured I'd better share it for your greater good.

And surely more of you out there need to confess your lazy mom shortcomings too, right?  It makes all the other moms that read this lazy site feel better about themselves.  Like they're not alone in the day to day raising of kids.  So don't be selfish and keep your mom confessions to yourself!  Share them with the rest of us so we can all bond over chocolate and a box of tissues, mkay?  Do other moms a favor and send me your confession today!

For now, here's our latest brave mother's confession....
My husband and I are both teaching evening classes this semester, so many evenings we don't get home until 9pm. We're both so tired by the time we get home, so after spending a little time with the kids, we dread the whole "bedtime ritual." Lately we've stumbled upon an awesome little trick. We tell our kids, "Mommy (or daddy) will put you down for bed right now OR you can stay up 10 more minutes and put yourselves down." They inevitably go for the 10 more minutes... then all I have to say is "Last one in bed is a rotten egg" and they are off running to their bed.... with barely another peep for the whole night!
I don't know that this trick will last very long.... and when I have the energy I do love to snuggle and read books before bed with them.... but for a very pregnant, very tired, overworked mom just getting home from work at night.... it's been awesome!!!!!
I can guarantee you she already feels better for sharing, so I think you should too!

And if you are having a particularly rough mom day today, read some more of our confessions.  You'll start to feel like a super mom again in no time.

Thanks for the Advice

I really appreciate all the great cleaning advice that was left on my cry for help post two days ago

I would highly recommend you scroll down to the bottom of that post, below the pictures, down to the comments area and check them all out.

I appreciated the sympathy, the ideas, the humor.  It was well worth the time I took to post about my shower cleaning woes.  So thank you!

In honor of the wonderful advice you all shared, I have to give out two awards for the most unusual ideas because they truly where ideas I would have NEVER thought about doing.  Until now.

The award for Most Unusual Idea goes to Lisa who said:
Use Oven cleaner. (Open a window) Let sit for a few and rinse, scrub if needed!

Okay, I am still sitting here wondering if Lisa is serious or not!  Has anyone else tried oven cleaner on your shower before?!  I think we need some more info on this one Lisa girl!

And the runner up for Most Unusual Idea goes to Michelle who said:
After you get it clean, get some spray-on car wax and give the shower walls a good spray. It will repel the water and dirt and stains for a while...until you think to do it again. Be careful not to wax the tub floor. ;)

Now this one I could see being a real tip.  I'm thinking this isn't so bad an idea and I might just give it a try. The only downside?  I have to get the shower clean first.  Which takes me back to square one.  Ugh.

Soooo, anyone else have some more shower/tub cleaning advice for me?  I'd love to hear some more ideas.  Then who knows... maybe I'll blog about my experience of finding the right solution.

I'm sure you would all just love that now wouldn't you?

Lazy Mom Tip #34

Are you ready for another great Lazy Mom Tip?  Because I'm sure ready to give you one!  So whether you're ready or not, you're getting it!

Aren't I all nice and stuff?

I think so.

So here's our Lazy Mom Tip #34!

So what you're looking at here is a picture of a blanket and pillow that is next to my bed.  See?  You weren't crazy!  It IS what you thought it was!  Isn't that good news?

Now, WHY? you may ask is this stuff next to my bed?

Well I'm going to tell you.

Aren't I all nice and stuff?

I think so.

Lazy Dad and I were never fans of the whole "co-sleeping" thing with our kids.  Now I totally understand the different view points on it and I get that some parents out there actually do enjoy co-sleeping and that's cool.  It just wasn't for us.  Like, at all.

Part of the reason we didn't care for co-sleeping is also because of the fact that I got like NO sleep whenever a child did land in our bed.  The kicking, the poking, the I'm-afraid-I'm-going-to-suffocate-them-on-accident thing pretty much equaled no sleep for mom.

So one mom I knew that has five kids told me several years ago (I know, I can't believe I'm just now getting around to telling you this awesome tip!) about how she keeps a rolled up sleeping bag and a pillow tucked under her bedside table for the inevitable times that one of her kids wanders into her room in the middle of the night because they had a bad dream, they're sick or they just "can't sleep."  She said, and I quote, "Between the five of them, there's always one up for some reason!"

Now on behalf of this mother with five children who always has one up for some reason, let's all have a moment of silence for her.  She deserves it.

[a moment of silence]

Thank you.

So anyway, I thought this was brilliant.  I mean, isn't it?!

Uh, yeah.

So since then I've stashed a blanket and pillow by my bed (not necessarily a sleeping bag although we have hard wood floors and a sleeping bag would be cushier) and that's where our kids land when they are up in the night in our room.  Plus there's no more fuddling around in the middle of the night to go find a blanket and pillow for them.  I mean, who wants to do that?  Like, no one.

My kids know that the pillow and blanket are there and they know the drill.  Now mama gets her much needed beauty sleep and all is right in the world.  Amen.

So if you're in a state of unrest with kids up in the middle of the night and wanting to get in bed with you, then go get yourself a blanket and pillow and stash it next to your bed!  Believe me you'll thank me for it.

Because I fully expect to be thanked, you hear?

Aren't I all nice and stuff?

I think so.

Cleaning Advice Needed

Oh dear.

I need some major cleaning advice.

I've said it before and I'll say to the day I die... I hate cleaning!  Do you hear me?!  HATE. IT.

So I need some serious cleaning advice for my bathroom.  Namely the shower/tub.  Let me tell you what I'm looking for and then surely one of you amazing people out there will know exactly what I need, right?

A girl can hope.

So here's my dilemma.  I'll walk you through it so you don't get lost....

People take showers.  Shower gets gross.  Stacey hates to clean, so she ignores it.  Until it's so bad she has to do something about it.  Stacey then has no idea what to use to clean her shower.  Because Stacey hates to clean and doesn't want to have to SCRUB.  Scrubbing is a bad word in Stacey's house.  Don't ever tell Stacey to scrub something, mkay?

So Stacey wants to find something that she can spray on to the shower walls (but not the every day type ones, please!  Remember, Stacey's lazy) that will magically clean the shower WITHOUT, and I repeat WITHOUT having to scrub it!  She wants to simply spray the cleaner on and walk away and come back a few minutes later and it be clean again.  Including the grout.  Is that possible?

A girl can hope.

There.  Does that explain my dilemma to you well enough? I sure hope so  because now I need your amazing shower cleaning advice and ASAP.  My shower is almost too scary to step foot into.

Well, okay, it's not that bad, but this could be me if I don't hear from you quick!

Please leave me a comment by clicking on the comments link below here.  It's pertinent that you do so.  Immediately.

Thank you.

Over and out.

Now I've started it....

*sigh*

Now that Lazy Moms are twitter'in, apparently that means we also need a facebook page.  These days everything has to be "connected" in the blog-o-sphere.

Well I guess it doesn't HAVE to be, but it does make it easier on those who are on facebook to follow along if we have a facebook page.  Especially those that are opposed to Twitter (like I was) and just don't want to hassle with it.  Believe me, I TOTALLY understand that!  So to comply with those that are Twitter-opposed, I have now started a Lazy Mom facebook page so you all can see our Twitter updates as well as interact more on facebook with us.

Your welcome.

Again, it's brand spankin' new, so don't laugh when you see there's only like 2 "fans" so far, mkay?  Just go "like" us right away to take away our embarrasment and we'll appreciate it.  A lot.

Oh! And by the way... over on the right sidebar over there >>>
I have put new "buttons" under the banner that says "Stay in touch with us," so you can find our new Twitter page, Facebook page and subscription choices.  For some reason they aren't all lined up in a perfect little row and I can't seem to figure out how to change that.  (Anyone out there know how I could?)  So until someone tells me how to fix it, it will just have to stay that way.

What can I say... I'm lazy.

Check back later today to offer this lazy mom some cleaning advice! Believe me when I say I need all the help I can get!

And the NEXT winner is....

So because of Chris's amazing spirit of generosity, I am now able to tell you who the next winner is of the $25 gift card from the Lazy Mom Snack Bin Job....

Are you ready?

Really ready?

Really, really ready?

I mean, I could wait a few more hours or days if you need me to.

I wouldn't mind.

But maybe you would.

Have I strung this out long enough for you?

I can make it longer....

Do you hate me now?

Because you shouldn't hate anyone, you know that right?

Okay, okay.  I'll stop.  For some reason I just couldn't help myself.

The NEXT winner is.....

[insert drumroll]

This Lazy Mom!!!

Congratulations Traci!!!  You've won!  So email me at imalazymom(at)gmail.com and tell me where you want your gift card to!

Thank you to all of you who waited patiently (and not so patiently) for the next winner to be drawn.  And a BIG thank you to Chris for passing on the gift card so someone else could win!

Another Lazy Mom Job will be posted sometime in the future!  (Isn't that nice and vague).

So since there's no set date for the next Lazy Mom Job, then you should either subscribe in a reader so you don't miss out, or subscribe via email (posts are sent to your inbox).

And while you're at it, why don't you follow us on Twitter as well?

Lazy Lasagna

Uh, did you read that title up there?  Lazy mom Donda emailed me a recipe for LAZY LASAGNA!  Oh yeah!

So get yourself ready to make this for dinner tonight, because you're going to want to make it!

Here's what Donda had to say about this recipe...
It's actually a bit more than 5 ingredients and a few steps but divide that by two days (because sorry guys, tomorrow your having leftovers) if evens itself out...plus it's Italian!!
Lazy Lasagna

1 box of pasta (penne pasta, bowties or whichever kind of pasta you have in your pantry to feed 6)

container of Ricotta

bag of mozzarella

garlic powder

onion powder

Ragu

Boil your pasta and drain. In a bowl mix together ricotta, mozzarella, garlic powder, onion powder. Add pasta and mix some more. Dump all of it into a baking dish and cover with a jar of Ragu. If you're feeling extra spunky cover with another bag of shredded mozzarella.

Bake at 375 for 45 minutes or an hour or however long it takes you to check your facebook notifications...it's all good.

And viola! You're done!

So do YOU have a recipe to share? Find out what the Lazy Moms are looking for and send it to us! We'd love to share it with everyone on this lazy, lazy site!

Well the Lazy Mom Job is over and it's time to pick a winner!

I totally appreciate those of you who did the job and posted pictures of your new snack bin! There was even one mom who couldn't get the Linky thingy to work so she had to post her link in the comments. She tried so hard to get it to work! Everybody give her a high five for that, mkay?

[high fives]

There was also one entry on my Twitter post by Yona.  She left me some ideas of what I should tweet about.  Thanks Yona!

Lazy Mom's a Twitterererer

I held out for as long as I could, but I couldn't hold out anymore.

*sigh*

I have now joined the world of twits (aka:  I'm on twitter now).  You'd think I'd be more excited, but I'm just not a twitter fan.  I'm so sorry to say it, but it pained me to jump on this bandwagon along with everyone else in the whole wide world (apparently).

Now don't get me wrong.  I joined twitter once.  A LONG time ago.  When it was like brand spanking new.  Lazy Mom Melis told me about it and I did it.  Then I decided it wasn't for me and I left it.

Isn't that an interesting story?

Glad I could enlighten you.

So anyway, I guess now-a-days if you're going to have a blog, you should have a matching twitter account.  So that's what I've done.

Now when you go check out my twitter account DON'T LAUGH.  I seriously have done like five tweets maybe?  And four of those are for Swag Bucks.  I'm infatuated with them, remember?

So here's where you can find me on Twitter.  I have no clue what I'm going to tweet yet, but I did tweet about our current Lazy Mom Job.  [Have you entered yet?]

Leave me some comments below telling me what I should tweet about, mkay?  I need help!  Seriously.  I am desperate enough for ideas that I'm willing to throw your name into the Lazy Mom Job gift card giveaway if you leave me a comment with a tweet idea!  So go do it already!!!  You hear me?

So get off your lazy behinds and go be more like me already, mkay?

Lazy Mom Tip #33

It's Lazy Mom Tip time!!!  Whoo-hoooooo!

I love sharing tips with all you wonderful lazy moms to help make your life lazier.  Sometimes these are my own tips, other times these tips come from you all!  So why not submit your Lazy Mom Tips so I can share them with everyone?

Go on.  Go do it.  I'll wait.

[elevator music]

See?  That wasn't difficult.

Now, on to Lazy Mom Tip #33!!!

That was Lazy Mom Tip #33.

Goodbye.

Well, okay.  I guess I should explain why that's Lazy Mom Tip #33....

Shown in the picture is my FABULOUS mom purse that I'm currently in love with.  She's just as fun as the first day I got her.  *sigh*  She's so cute.  And you see her pictured here strapped in to a grocery cart.  Let me explain why....

I live in a city that's big enough to be considered BIG.  Not like the town I grew up in.  So since I now live in a city that's considered big I take certain percautions.  I mean, I would HATE to see my beloved mom purse be snatched out of my cart and running away from me!  She's just too cute for that!

So I just strap her in when we go shopping.  It's a simple little thing to do that may make a difference in whether or not your cute little mom purse remains yours and not someone elses.

So this tip is more like a PSA (public service announcement) than a tip, but I felt the need to share!

Your welcome.

Lazy Mom It

So I've been thinking about a new kind of "feature" here on I'm a Lazy Mom.  One where us lazy moms "lazify" more complicated things that are out there.  Like recipes, things people make, etc. that are sort of complicated (or in other words, non-lazy mom friendly) and then we lazify them, or "Lazy Mom them."

For instance, I saw on this blog today some recipes for homemade popsicles.  Now don't think of me more highly than you ought, because my next statement may shock you.

I actually do make my kids homemade popsicles in the summer time.

*gasp!*

You're shocked, aren't you?

Well don't be, because here comes a big however....

HOWEVER.

I do NOT use a recipe to make them.  I just use juice.  You know, juice that comes in big bottles?  In the juice aisle at Walmart?  Yes, THAT juice.  I just pour the juice into the popsicle molds and viola!  I'm done.

So see?  I just Lazy Mom'd that post about making homemade popsicles.  Because as much as I would LOVE to make all of those recipes for homemade popsicles, the juice-in-a-bottle kind of popsicle is just as good in my book.  And lazier.

That's my first example of Lazy Mom-ing something.

Here's my second.  (aren't you glad I'm clarifying for you in this way?)

Last week I posted a Shout Out for a blog I like to read.  I told you she was going to be posting about a "quiet book" she made for her daughter.  If you didn't see her quiet book then you must go here and check it out.  OH. MY. WORD.  It is adorable.  And for the life of me I wish I was not a lazy mom or I'd make one.

By golly, I would!

*sigh*

So okay, my fellow lazy mom comrade, Chana, saw my Shout Out about the quiet book and she emailed me her Lazy Mom version of one, so I MUST share it with you.  It's my duty to all things lazy.

Or something like that.

So here's what she had to say...
Stacey,

Here's my lazy mom version of that book it looks like her daughter is playing with....ours is just a dress up teddy bear... the idea was taken from this site. She gives the free patterns - so it's fairly Lazy Mom friendly! My girls love them. I've thought about venturing out with other felt animals and things... but I'm still pretty lazy.
Now do you see why we've been BFF's since we were 2?

Anyway, here are the pictures she sent me of her girls playing with their books....

Isn't that so cute?! And a great way to Lazy Mom that quiet book I'll never be able to recreate for my kids.

So.... do you have a lazy version of something that's more complicated?

It could be a recipe or a craft.

Maybe it's a sewing project or a lazy short cut for something more complicated.

Email it to me!  I'd love to see the complicated version of it and then your smart Lazy Mom way of doing it!  And then I'll post them here for all the lazy world to see!

Or maybe you have a recipe or something complicated that you'd love to make, but it's just not lazy enough for you to bite the bullet and do it.  Send them to me and I'll post them too.  Maybe between all of us lazy moms on the side bar over there we'll be able to come up with a lazy mom version of it for you!

Please don't be too lazy to send me something, mkay?  I really want to hear from you on this!  Please?  Please?!  Don't make me beg!

Look How Cute!

I found these adorable water bottles on Walmart recently and loved them.  Aren't they cute?

I usually buy cheap plastic water bottles every summer for the kids to keep in the fridge.  I say, I buy them every summer because by the end of the summer they are DESTROYED usually.  So this year I wanted to get something more sturdy and everyone is touting the aluminum ones these days, so viola!  That's what I got.

Isn't that an intriguing story?

I thought so to.

So it comes with three for boys...

and three for girls...

My favorite part about them is that inside is a freezable ice pack type tube to help keep the drinks cold longer.

Aren't they cute?!

What do you use at your house for summer time hydration?

Another Lazy Mom Job!

Ohhhhhhh Laaaaaaaazy Moooooooms!

It's time for your next Lazy Mom Job!

The job for this week (if you choose to accept it) is something that will help make your Summer days lazier.

Which is TOTALLY important if you're a lazy mom.

So here is your next Lazy Mom Job assignment....

Go implement Lazy Mom Tip #21!  Make a Snack Bin!

Believe me when I say you will thank me for it later.

Now, don't feel like you have to go out and buy a new bin to put it in (unless you just want to).  I bought my new snack bin (because last years was confiscated to hold video game remotes and such) at Big Lots for five bucks.  But I'll bet you can find an empty tub of some sort laying around your house somewhere.

But feel free to get creative!  Maybe you don't want a snack bin, but a snack drawer?  Or a snack cabinet?  Make it your own.
When you have completed your Lazy Mom Job you must take a picture of it and post it in the Linky tool below (it's easy... don't worry!).  I'll draw a random winner from the picture entries and the lazy gal will win a $25 gift card!

So let's go over this together... here's what you need to do:
  1. Go do the Lazy Mom Job!  You have until Thursday June 10th at Midnight (Eastern Time) to complete it.
  2. Take a picture of you doing the job or a picture of the completed job.
  3. Upload the picture to the internet somewhere.  This could be on your blog or on a photo website like Flickr, Photobucket, Picasa, or whatever place you upload your pictures!
  4. Use the Linky tool below this post to add the link to wherever you uploaded your picture.  Don't worry, it's easy!  Just copy and paste the address of your photo you uploaded into the Linky Tool.
  5. Hope and pray you get picked randomly as the winner of a $25 gift card!!!
See?  It's not that hard!  Just follow the steps.

And as proof that I have DONE this job just a few days ago, here is my picture proof....

I can't even tell you how much I love my snack bin.  Sad.  I know.

But I can't help it because every time my kids say, "Can we have a snack!"  I just sit back and say, "Go get one out of the snack bin."

Ahhhhhh, the laziness!  I love it!

And you need to get lazy too, so go do your Lazy Mom Job!!!!

"Oh no, here she goes again...."

First of all I want to say that I promise, PROMISE that I won't turn this fabulously lazy site into a promotion place for all things Swagbucks.

However.

I do have to tell you about two things real quick!

First of all, today is Mega Swagbucks Day!  What does that mean?  It means that when you are a Swagbucks member and you do your normal internet searches using the Swagbucks search engine instead of your usual one (like google or yahoo) you usually earn swagbucks in the single (or sometimes small double) digits.  TODAY you can possibly earn BIG swagbucks in big double digits or even a triple digit!  Oh yeah!

Second of all, according to the Swagbucks blog, Monday is going to be a GREAT DAY with at least 5 Swag Codes!! Monday will kick off the whole week of highlighting different BIG bills each day as well!

So I'd say NOW is a good time to jump on the whole Swagbucks bandwagon people.  You can do so here and receive 50 Swagbucks (instead of 30) using the code SUMMEROFSWAG!

There.

Thank you for letting me get all that swag talk out of my system.  I promise not to do it again for at least 30 minutes.  An hour if you're good and don't complain.

Your welcome.

Check back later this afternoon for your next Lazy Mom Job!!!

Shout Out!

One of my long time favorite blogs is The Empty Bobbin.  I found it several years ago and love it.  She always posts the cutest quilts that she's made.  And one day I hope to quilt.

Hey!

I heard that snicker!

really do.  I really hope to quilt one day.  Especially quilts as cute and fun as The Empty Bobbins

And I'll prove to you my aspirations to quilt are very sincere.  See this post here about our family's Christmas pajamas.  One day each kid will get a quilt made from their Christmas pajamas courtesy of moi!  Notice that that post was written in 2005.

See?

I'm for real about this.

So this week, she is doing a daily post on the most adorable things she made for her daughter's 2nd birthday.  It all started on Monday with her post about the birthday party.  Since then she's been posting the details about the things she made for the party.  Check out the ADORABLE dress she made for the birthday girl to wear to her party, oh and the Drawstring Goodie Bags (that are SO cute, but too much work for me!).  Plus tomorrow she's posting a book she made for her girl

TOO. CUTE.

Now I know this isn't lazy mom friendly and it might even make you down right depressed to see what this mom did for a party, but I'm willing to take that risk because OH. MY. GOSH. if her stuff isn't SO. STINKING. CUTE.

So don't hate me lazy moms.  Just admire her work and then go cry and eat some chocolate.  You'll feel better then I promise.

Besides, being a lazy mom isn't really about being lazy, remember?  It's about raising our kids to be independent responsible people.

So there.
