Guest Poster Child -- huh?

Sorry, I do believe that title could be a "before and after" clue on Wheel of Fortune.

But anyway, not too long ago I posted about my sweet friend that is about to become a first time mommy.  I seem to recall asking all you lazy moms out there to go leave her your best new mom advice on her really fun blog, which I'm pretty sure none of you did.

Well, don't worry.  You now have another chance to redeem yourselves in my eyes.

Here, live and in person (well, she's not actually LIVE, but she's in person) Abigail is guest posting for me while I'm gone away with The Lazy Dad for our 10 year Anniversary (which is today).  Since he and I are busy gazing into each others eyes, you should sit back and enjoy your time with her - the only person in the world who likes using parenthesis more than I do.  (And leave her some new mom advice at the end of this post!)

Heeeeeeeeeeere's ABI! (Although she doesn't really go by that name)....

--
In one week medical science says that the baby in my tummy is "due". We'll see about that! I, for one would be perfectly happy if that baby decided to make his appearance early. Actually, if I was going to be perfectly honest, then I'd have to admit that what I'd really like is for the baby and I to sit down with my calendar (I don't think he has one yet) and decide on a really convenient time and place for me to go into labor. For instance, I don't have anything scheduled for next Tuesday just yet. How about Tuesday at, saaaay, 8 am after a good nights sleep and maybe a little breakfast? Doesn't that sound like a good plan? Looking forward to it! Can't wait to get together!

Ahhhh! If only, right?! Sadly my uptight, over-planning nature will probably have to be the first thing to go once I have a child. I know I will have to learn a lot before I can pin on my Lazy Mom badge, but in preparation I've done one thing to train...I've become a Lazy Housewife.

When I first got married I was not a Lazy Housewife. During my first year of marriage I threw several parties. When these events were planned I would put it on the calendar and block off a huge chunk of time for "preparation".

Preparation included cleaning the house from top to bottom, (because you NEVER KNOW, your guest might get turned around in your giant 2 bedroom apartment and end up in your hall closet...and if that were to happen, they would need to see that your towels were color coordinated.) followed by an intense menu planning (cornish game hen, anyone?!), followed by a long trip to the grocery store (or two...because that first store doesn't HAVE the special cheese that you want to garnish the top of your salads), followed by an afternoon/evening of cooking....and then the decorating (no table is complete without a flower arrangement). The table MUST be set before the guests arrive (!!) and the food must be in that mythical state of "perfectly ready" so that its not cold when its put on the table, and yet HEAVEN FORBID your guests have to wait for something to come out of the oven....

So you can imagine that entertaining in our house was a BIG OL' DEAL and while I enjoyed it, I obviously didn't have the luxury to do it all the time, because lets be honest not many people have whole DAYS set aside for party planning purposes. Which is how I slowly but surely converted to being a Lazy Housewife.
Lazy Housewifery looks like this...

On Friday I was throwing a 30th Birthday party for a friend at my house. Around 10am that morning I got a phone call inviting me to a craft lunch (score! free lunch AND learn how to make cute earrings?!? I'm there!)...and no worries I would STILL be able to plan the party afterwards....

At around 11am I got a call from a friend who recently had a baby, "Could she come over and visit for a little while in the afternoon? She was getting stir crazy at home." Perfect! I'd just be finishing up my earrings and then I could run home to let in my visitors (I went ahead and invited another new mom over for good measure) and then I'd still have several hours before the party....plenty of time to get ready!

And that's how slowly, any "fancy" plans I had, instead became me starting a grocery list for the party at around 4:30pm (party starts at 7pm), throwing together a cake mix (because for the life of me they taste better than homemade) at 5pm, putting it out to cool while I headed to the store to pick up some paper plates (because I'm not doing the dishes!) and some chips (because I'm not making any "before dinner cocktails") and sending my husband to pick up pizzas (because I'm not standing over a hot stove!)
The point of this story is that I have learned that if PEOPLE are the priority of entertaining (which I kinda think they are), than its SO MUCH better to throw down the paper plates rather than get out the fancy china and use that extra dishwashing energy to spend some time with some new moms or a lonely neighbor.

I'm thinking motherhood is going to be similar....So, before I go making equally over-the-top Mom Mistakes as I strive to "get it right", feel free to drop off your infant equivalent to getting out the paper plates so that I can focus on the REAL priority...raising a happy, healthy, responsible kid. (This means leave me some good Lazy Mom Baby Tips, people!!)

I just had to!

Don't hate me, but I just HAD to tell you wonderful lazy mom that since I started doing the whole Swag Bucks thing, I have gotten $75 in gift cards!

Yes, that's right... $75 in two months!

[Giddy Free Gift Card Laughter]

So if you were skeptical about Swag Bucks before, you don't need to be! You can join here and they'll start you off with 30 Swag Bucks just for doing so!

Summer Time Sleepovers

During the school year, we run a pretty tight ship around our lazy house.

Shocking, isn't it?  I mean, considering we're becoming known more and more as "The Lazy Family" it seems a little like an oxymoron.  Or something.

[Oxymoron does mean contradictory, doesn't it? And it is all one word like that, isn't it? Geez, maybe just the moron part fits us better.]

But don't worry.  Come summer time, things get loose 'round these parts.  There.  Doesn't that make you feel better?

One of the things we let our kids do during the Summer months is to "sleepover" in each other's rooms.  They think it's a real treat for some reason, so we just go with it.

Most times my daughter spends the night up in her brothers' room, but on this particular night the boys were sleeping over in her room.

They just love it and I think it's sweet that they enjoy each other's company so much!

So what are some things you lax on during the Summer that you don't allow usually?  Tell me in the comments link below!

Couldn't Resist

Now I know this isn't a Lazy Mom Recipe (it has more than 5 ingredients) but I just couldn't resist telling you beautiful lazy moms about this recipe seeing that we've talked so much about pudding pops AND smores lately!

All for which I'm sure you're eternally grateful, so your welcome.

But NOW, thanks to Kraft Foods Kitchen, you no longer have to keep those two things separate.  No, now you can put those two ingredients together and make this....

Frozen Smore Pops!  (I'm not even kidding!)

Could. You. Die?

Well don't.  At least not until you've made these first, mkay?

Here's the recipe...

4 squares BAKER'S Semi-Sweet Chocolate, melted
2/3 cup canned sweetened condensed milk
1 pkg. (8 oz.) PHILADELPHIA Cream Cheese, softened
1-1/4 cups cold milk
1 pkg. (3.9 oz.) JELL-O Chocolate Instant Pudding
1-1/2 cups thawed COOL WHIP Whipped Topping
1 cup JET-PUFFED Miniature Marshmallows
9 NABISCO Grahams, broken in half (18 squares)

MIX melted chocolate and condensed milk; set aside. Beat cream cheese in large bowl with mixer until creamy. Gradually beat in milk. Add dry pudding mix; beat until well blended. Stir in COOL WHIP and marshmallows.

SPREAD bottoms of graham squares with chocolate mixture. Place 9 squares, chocolate-sides up, in 9-inch square pan. Cover with pudding mixture and remaining graham squares, chocolate-sides down. Freeze 4 hours.

REMOVE dessert from freezer 5 min. before serving. Let stand at room temperature to soften slightly. Use serrated knife to cut dessert into 18 bars, following lines in top crackers.

Uh, YUM.

Oh, and while we're sorta-kinda on the pudding pop subject you better take note of these Cookies and Creme Pudding Pops.  I think I want to dance they make me so happy just looking at them.

And check out this bad boy!  He only has five ingredients!  I'll take four please!

Lazy Mom Tip #39

So I'm thinking you all are not liking the super fly baby/toddler tips I'm posting, because I've gotten very little comments about them.

*humph*

But I'm going to turn my frown upside down and try again with another GREAT tip sent in by lazy mom Angela.  Here's what she had to say...
We now live in a two story house with the bedrooms on the second floor. I don’t want to climb those stairs every time my girl needs her diaper changed! So I keep a stash of all the diaper changing necessities (and an extra outfit) on the first floor so I can go up the stairs less often. My knees are much happier for it!
And when I read her fabuloso tip she emailed to me it once again reminded me that I used to do this!  See how good you all are for me?!  My Sweet 'n Low numbed memory thanks you.

Yes, this is a GREAT tip if you have a multi-level house.  When our babies were, well, babies, we lived in two story apartments with all the rooms upstairs.  Thus making the changing table and diaper supplies UP stairs.

And seeing how you all know I'm lazy and all, this simply would not do.  So I resorted to keeping diapering essentials just like Angela mentioned in a cute little basket on the main floor.  The basket even had a handy dandy handle on it so I could grab it easily and take it to wear I was doing the changing for that moment.

I love this tip so much and can't thank Angela enough for stirring the few remaining memory cells I have left by sending this great tip in!

P.S. That is not a picture of the basket I used, it's a random one I found on the internet.

Lazy Chocolate Lava Cake

Uh, did you check out the title of this post?

Because I do believe I see the words, lazy... chocolate... lava (which means gooey yumness in my mind)... and cake all put together.

Taking those words into consideration, this might possibly be the most exciting thing I've ever posted about ever.

In fact, we may need a moment of silence after reading those four words together.

Everyone?  Bow your heads please.

[moment of silence]

Okay.  Thank you.  Did anyone else tear up?  Because I think I did.

So lazy mom Jen sent in this most wonderful moment-of-silence recipe to us here at I'm a Lazy Mom and I'd be jiggered if I didn't share it with all of you other wonderful lazy moms.

Here's what Jen had to say about her glorious moment-of-silence recipe...
I have a great recipe the kids love...and my husband loves it even more because even he can handle this one! I know it's 6 ingredients...but is the pinch of salt really an ingredient??
No, Jen.  In my world a pinch of salt does NOT count as an ingredient.  I'm totally with you in this.  Especially seeing that I will now have an excuse to make this cake and eat it too.  You did the right thing and we are ALL proud of you for it.

Albeit our thighs are not proud of you, but our hearts are...

Lazy Chocolate Lava Cake

6 Tablespoons butter
1/2 c dark chocolate baking chips
2 eggs
3 Tablespoons Sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons flour
pinch of salt

In small saucepan over low heat, melt together butter and chocolate, stirring intermittently. In small bowl, mix together remaining ingredients. When butter and chocolate are all melted, stir into bowl of egg/sugar/flour/salt.

Pour into two small ramekins and bake 8 to 10 minutes. Cake will be done when edges are set. The middle of the cake will not be set! Let cool a few minutes and enjoy!

Optional: Try different toppings like strawberries or raspberries rolled in sugar.

I think I just heard angels singing, but I can't be sure.  Maybe that was my stomach rumbling, or maybe it was my thighs groaning.  It's hard to decipher these things.

Anyway, go forth and make cake.  All of you.  Then tell me how wonderful Jen is for sending us this lazy recipe.

But don't worry I don't plan on dancing.

And don't worry, I won't blame you if you hate me for getting that song in your head.

Even Lazier Smores

A while back we posted a great Lazy Smore "recipe" of sorts for you to enjoy smores without the hassle of a camp fire.

Well lazy mom Diasie decided to take it up a notch on the lazy factor!  Here's what she had to say....
My kids like smores in a bag for a snack. All you do is put in Golden Grahams, mini marshmallows, and chocolate chips. These are a really great sweet treat. However they should not be eaten or left in the car!!
This is a great lazy idea for a sweet smore treat!  Thanks Daisie!

Lazy Mom Tip #38

Ooo!  Ooo!

While writing Lazy Mom Tip #37 I also remembered another GREAT baby/toddler tip!!!

Whoo-hooo!  I'm on a roll!

So here's the tip...

Do you have a baby or toddler that is notorious for kicking their blankets off of them at night and they inevitably freeze to death (or you at least are worried they will?) because of it?

Never fear!  This lazy mom tip will keep your little darling nice and snug!

Instead of dressing your baby in ONE sleeper, put them in two!  A friend of mine used to do this in the winter time because their upstairs was way colder than their downstairs at night and she worried her girls would get too cold and wake up, and well, you all know what happens when a child wakes up at night... lazy mom gets NO sleep.

And we just can't have that around I'm a Lazy Mom.  Uh-uh, that just will not do.

So to keep her girls nice and warm in their beds (and her nice and warm in hers) she would double their sleepers at night.  Isn't that brilliant?!

You could even put on a cotton sleeper and then put on a fuzzy fleece sleeper on top of it!  (you may have to go up a size on the second layer).

Soooo... who loves me now?!  Huh?  huh?  Isn't that a good baby/toddler tip?!?!

Thank you.

And stay tuned for more great baby/toddler tips that some of you great lazy moms out there have sent in!

7.20.2010

Pudding Pop Variation

Who knew when I posted about homemade pudding pops that it would turn into so much conversation and posts about pudding on our lazy, lazy site?!

But here we are yet again talking about it!  This time, with a twist though.

Katie (who also shared a lazy mom baby/toddler tip with us recently) sent this idea in for us lazy moms...
Here's yet another twist to the pudding pops- we get the kids yogurt danomino (don't know if - spelled that right). Anyway, I just cut a little slit in the top and slide in a plastic spoon or popsicle stick, then into the freezer it goes. I get super cool mom points because I let the kids have this for breakfast... They feel like they are eating icecream!
So instead of pudding, you can use yogurt!

I guess the only question is... do you want super cool mom points or not?

Thanks for sharing this with us Katie!

Cleaning Like a Lazy Mom Just Got Easier

Apparently the word has gotten out that I HATE CLEANING

Because this last week two different company's sent me some of their cleaning products to try out and I'm excited to tell you about both of them.

Although for one of them you'll have to wait, because I'm only posting one today and not the other.  In fact, the other will probably be posted next week.  So if you schedule your Lazy Mom readings according to when cleaning products are talked about, you'll now have a schedule to go by.

Your welcome.

But today I'm excited to tell you wonderful lazy moms about a new floor cleaning system called O-Cedar ProMist™ Wet or Dry Floor Cleaning System!

And I'm even more excited to tell you that two, yes that's right, TWO of you will win a ProMist for your own lazy household!

Eeeeeeee!

As you can see, this floor cleaning system is very similar to a Swiffer Wet Jet.  And in fact, I thought maybe they would be so similar that I wouldn't really care for the ProMist.

But I was wrong.

(By the way, that is not me in the picture. Nor is that my house.  My house is never that clean.  That's how you should have known that picture wasn't me, nor was it my house. Plus I don't really take pictures of myself cleaning.  Especially seeing that I avoid cleaning at pretty much all costs. Although, that would be a good argument for someone to take a picture of me cleaning... seeing that it's so rare.  Are you still reading this?)

The ProMist is great. I mean, really great. I think the thing I liked about it the most was the spray on it. It sprays out so perfectly lovely (did I just say that about something involving cleaning?!) that I was almost taken aback by it.

Actually, scratch that.

I was taken aback by it!  It's spray nozzle is like 10 times better than Swiffer's Wet Jet.

Sorry Swiffer. I'm just sayin'.

It also includes two types of reusable microfiber pads: a durable pad which can be washed up to 100 times and a semi-disposable pad that can be washed or tossed—great for messy spills! So this handy dandy ProMist is enviromentally friendly as well!

Plus, another bonus to the ProMist is the fact that the mop has a refillable bottle that allows lazy moms the choice to use their favorite cleaning solution or water only.  Which I also really liked because I was in control of what I put on my floors to clean them.

So the benefits of a ProMist floor cleaning system are that:

  • It offers a thorough, convenient clean every time.

  • The reusable microfiber pads lift and trap dirt and grime. Since they are reusable, it helps save money and is more eco-friendly.

  • It is safer for moms and pet owners to clean due to the refillable bottle—choose your own cleaner!
FAB!

So.  Are you ready to win one for your little ol' self?  Because like I said, O-Cedar is giving two of these bad boys away!  And believe me when I say, YOU WILL LIKE IT!

SO HERE'S HOW TO ENTER...

**This Giveaway is Closed!!**

Simply leave a comment on this post telling me what type of floor cleaning solution you would put in the ProMist!

And that's it!  You're entered to win!

If, however, you'd like to earn additional entries, you can do the following (BE SURE TO LEAVE A SEPARATE COMMENT FOR EACH ONE YOU DO)....

The fine print: Open to U.S. residents only!  This giveaway closes at midnight (Eastern Time) on July 26, 2010.  Thank you to O-Cedar for the ProMist sample! I was compensated in no other way and the opinions expressed are my own and are in no way affected by O-Cedar's generosity.

Lazy Pasta Dinner Recipe

So by now you all should know that here on I'm a Lazy Mom we like to post recipes that are lazy.  In fact, they need to be so lazy "even a lazy mom can do it."  (I just love that!)

So in keeping with our Cooking the Lazy Mom Way around here, this is the latest lazy mom recipe sent in by lazy mom Stahli...

"This is a recipe my husband and I came up with on the fly....."

Lazy Pasta Dinner

Pasta (of your choice)

Dressing (we used Poppy seed)

Sliced carrots

Sliced Apple

Meat of choice (we used left-over roast)

Cook pasta and drain. Add remaining ingredients and stir. You can also add other items like nuts (we had Almond slices), sunflower seeds, grapes (diced), tomatoes... The options are only limited by your imagination!

Thanks Stahli!

If you have a lazy recipe to share, then find out how to submit it to us!

Kids Camp (aka: A Lazy Mom's Vacation)

So I'm sitting at the most wonderful place on earth.

No, I'm not at Disney World.

Or Italy.

Or Hershey's Chocolate World.

I'm at our state's Kids Camp.

Yes, in less than 5 hours our church campgrounds will be flooded with well over 300 kids.

Mm, hmm.

As if I don't get enough of my own three little darlings, I decided to be around 300+ other ones for the next five days.

What can I say?  The Lazy Dad and I are gluttons for punishment I guess.

Well, actually we love doing our state's Kids Camp.

In fact, it's down right fantabulous.

In fact, I love it here.

In fact, it's basically a Lazy Mom vacation.

Now I know that may sound crazy, but when you see where I get to live for the next five days and all the little perks to being here, I think you'll see why this Lazy Mom LOVES our Kids Camp and considers it a vacay.

Let me show you the top two reason why Kids Camp is a Lazy Mom vacay.

Reason number 1... check out the place we get to stay.

I just LOVE this cabin so much.  In fact I'd like to own one some day.  But I guess as long as The Lazy Dad still does this Camp Director gig, I don't need to.

This sweet little cabin is one of the reasons I love Kids Camp and why Kids Camp is a Lazy Mom's vacay.  You see here in this darling little cabin I don't have to clean, change sheets or even wash towels.

In fact, when I need fresh towels, I just put the hamper of dirty towels out on the front porch and then fresh clean ones magically appear later in the day.

It's a beautiful thing really.

It brings tears to my eyes every time it happens.

It's an emotional thing, Kids Camp.

Anyway, the second reason Kids Camp is a Lazy Mom vacay is this place...

Now this may seem like any old "cafeteria" to you guys, but you'd be dead wrong.  This place may possibly be the closest thing to Lazy Mom heaven as you can get.  Think about it...

Lazy Mom feels a rumbly in the tumbly.
Lazy Mom's kids feel a rumbly in the tumbly.
Lazy Mom notes that it is meal time at Kids Camp.
Lazy Mom walks kids over to cafeteria and [insert angelic music here] food is magically sitting there ready to be eaten.

Again.  Tears.  In eyes.

I told you Kids Camp is an emotional time for me.

So yes.  Those are the top two reasons why Kids Camp is a Lazy Mom vacay.

And if you'd like to see more reasons for why this is true, then you can follow my tweets from Kids Camp this week.  In fact, I already started my Kids Camp tweets yesterday. Just watch for #kidscamp in my tweets and you'll see them.

Although sometimes I forgot to put #kidscamp at the end of them.

So don't hold your breath on that one.

Or you may pass out.

And I'd hate to be responsible for you passing out.

Let me tell you a story.

A story of love... of hate... of stickiness.

Yes, let me tell you a little story about peanut butter. (bet you didn't see that coming)

Peanut butter and I go way back. Suffice it to say, I love it.  I love it's yumminess in my tummy, I love it's peanut-y taste, I love the way it sticks to my ribs so I'm not hungry for a long time.

Yes, there's lots to love.

BUT.

(and this is where the hate part of this story comes in)

I do not love all the ingredients in peanut butter.  And haven't for a while now.

You see, when I met my husband and we started dating, he was on an "all-natural" eating kind of kick.  And he introduced me to the horrors of ingredient labels.  But that's another story for another time (aren't you lucky).

So I quickly discovered that if my love affair with peanut butter was to remain, I was going to have to get rid of the ingredients I hated in them.

Enter natural peanut butters.

I loved that they only had peanuts and salt listed as an ingredient (another love part of this story) however, I hated that the oil would naturally separate and you'd have to stir it to get the oil all back in place (another hate part of this story, see how consistent I am?).

For YEARS I would put up with the whole stir-the-peanut-butter-when-you-buy-it thing, but enough was enough already!

One day I walked in to Walmart and lo and behold I found Skippy Natural peanut butter sitting on their pretty little shelves.

The part that caught my attention was the part that says, "No need to stir!"

Uh, yeah.  Sign me up for that one!

So I took Skippy Natural home and we feel madly in love.

It's a beautiful story, is it not?

But guess what?

LUCKY for you the story doesn't end there!

Because Skippy has a new natural peanut butter out and it's called Skippy Naturals WITH HONEY!

Could you die?!

Well you could if you like honey in your peanut butter.

And I have to admit that I have never, and I repeat NEVER, have liked peanut butter with honey in it.  I'm just not a fan.

But when Skippy sent me some coupons to try their new natural peanut butter for free I said "Ka-ching! Sure thing."

Or something like that.

Anyway, here is the line-up of their current Natural peanut butters....

You now all know that this lazy family has already been a long time fan of the Skippy Natural Creamy peanut butter, but did you know that there is also a Skippy Natural SUPER CHUNKY one for those of you who like some crunch in their peanut butter life.

(Isn't this post all interesting and stuff?)

And let me just say that before I went through the whole "Natural Peanut Butter" thing in life, I was a super chunk kind of girl.

For peanut butter, not for me.

Although I am sort of super chunky.

But I digress.

Chunky peanut butters just didn't work out to well with us when we had the whole "stir the oil back in" phase of peanut butter life.  So we abandoned it and went to creamy which seemed to stir in better.

WELL NOT ANY MORE.

(Aren't you so glad you read this blog?)

With Skippy Natural's "no need to stir" mentality we can definitely put pretty little super chunk back in our peanut butter repertoire.  She's nothing but goodness.  And I have to say we had forgotten how good chunky peanut butter could be.

ANYWAY, with our line-up of peanut butters sitting at our house, I decided to have a taste test.  The Lazy Dad and the kids (does that make them the lazy kids?) got in on it too.

We all taste tested the three Natural kinds of Skippy peanut butter spread across a good ol' saltine cracker (a whole wheat one, mind you) like this...

(Do my hands look super chunky? I've been trying to work on that. *sigh*)

Mmmm, peanut butter on a saltine cracker... there may not be anything better.  Seriously, you have to try it if you haven't before.  That's how I grew up on peanut butter.

So let me tell you the results of The Lazy Family's taste test.

Skippy Natural Creamy - ***** (five stars)
Everyone loves it in our lazy household.

Skippy Natural Chunky - **** (four stars)
Everyone loved it but my one son who said, "Mom, you know I don't like nuts."  Oh right, sorry.

Skippy Natural with Honey - a surprising ***** (five stars!)

No one was more surprised than I was!  I mean I already told you that I'm not a peanut butter with honey kind of fan.  But people, get thee to a store and buy thee this stuff already.  It's THAT good.  I liken it to honey roasted peanuts that you buy in that long tube at the convenient store.

Super yum-ness.

Even The Lazy Dad was like, "Wow. That stuff is good. I really like that a lot."  And seeing that I didn't have to even ASK him for his opinion, and seeing that I have NEVER heard him say something like that over ANYTHING I've EVER made EVER, I'd say that's pretty darn good.

My kids all loved it as well and so did I!  Shocker!

Soooooo, that's the down low on Skippy Natural peanut butter.  Aren't you SO glad you took the time to read this blog post today?

I thought so.

P.S. Check out Skippy's CUTE crafts for kids using empty peanut butter cans!
P.P.S. You might also be able to find some great peanut butter Lazy Mom Recipes on their website too!

Thank you to Unilever for providing me with coupons for free Skippy peanut butter for this review.  I was compensated in no other way and the opinions expressed here are my own and not swayed in any way by the complimentary peanut butter.

Trash Can Confession

This here is the current state of my kitchen trash.

No wait. You might think too highly of me, so let me restate that...

This here has been the current state of my kitchen trash all week.

There. That should bring me down a few notches on that high pedestal you've all placed me on.

Yup. I walk past that trash can how many times a day and just didn't want to deal with it.

Anyone else out there with me?

Or am I all alone in my utter laziness?

Lazy Mom Tip #37

So the other day I sent out a plea for your best baby/toddler tips because well, we only have like two of them on this beautiful lazy site.

*sigh*

Then lo and behold, right after I wrote that award winning post pleading for your help, I stumbled upon a GREAT baby tip and I'm SUPER excited about sharing it with you!!!

Plus! Things are really looking up in the baby/toddler tip department on this here site because I've gotten several good ones from lazy moms just like you!  Whoo-hooo!

I'm hoping that these upcoming tips (and today's tip) will put me back in the good graces of all you moms with preschoolers and that you'll all forgive me for being so neglectful of baby/toddler tips.

I repent.

So.... here you go. I think you're gonna like it! A lot.

When my kids were babies, night time accidents (especially with the boys) was common. Diapers inevitably fail when they've been on all night or the baby spits up all over the crib and you suddenly find yourself bumbling through the night half asleep looking for a new crib sheet and a way to clean up the mattress before you put it down.

And you do this all while holding a crying baby.

And all while Lazy Dad is fast asleep. (Can I get a witness?)

But not any more!

There's no need to go through that night time horribleness anymore! Not when you double your crib sheets on the bed and put a mattress pad protector BETWEEN them!

When you employ this new double-the-crib-sheet tip, here's how your new night time accidents will go...

Baby spits up or diaper fails.

Baby cries.

Lazy Mom stumbles into room and holds baby in one arm.

With the other arm Lazy Mom rips off nasty sheets and mattress protector, keeping the second bottom sheet still on.

Lazy Mom cleans up baby and puts back to bed.

Lazy Mom stumbles back to her own bed and crashes.

Lazy Dad never even knows this night time event ever took place.

The End.

See?! This tip works in REAL life situations as the above clearly demonstrates for us all.

And if for some reason it doesn't go according to the above demonstration, then we are not legally responsible, mkay?

SooOOoo, got any more great baby/toddler tips to share?  I'd still love to hear them!

And if you're looking for baby/toddler tips specifically you can click on our label "Baby Tips" that's over on the sidebar under "Lazy Mom Topics."

Get ready for that label to start growing in numbers!!

P.S. Don't miss out on our $25 gift card giveaway! Anyone can enter!

Ready for a Lazy Mom Job?

So I'm totally ready for another Lazy Mom Job and I hope you are too!

I've decided that this Lazy Mom Job should be SUPER easy though to get you guys to ALL participate.  Because in the past, let's just say your participation has been lackluster.  Not a lot of you actually DO the Lazy Mom Jobs.  I attribute this to the fact that we promote being lazy here on this site, but still.  I think some of you are taking the lazy part a little too seriously.

Me not included in that at all.

Sooooooo, your next Lazy Mom Job (if you choose to accept it) is to stay in touch with I'm a Lazy Mom.  Because how can we keep you all informed with Lazy Mom Recipes, Lazy Mom Tips and Lazy Mom Confessions among a host of other Lazy Mom topics if you aren't connected to us in some way?!

It's absurd.  I know.

You'd be like a fish out of water.

And we'd hate for you to be a fish out of water.

So in order to be in the drawing for a $25 gift card (of your choice) you must do at least one of the following...
  • Subscribe to I'm a Lazy Mom in a reader

And since I'm in a giving kind of mood (I mean I did make this job SUPER easy for you all) you can go ahead and leave me a comment for EACH ONE of the above things that you do and it will be considered an entry as well.

*gasp!*

So you have up to five ways to enter for this gift card.  Just leave a seperate comment for each one you do.

How easy peasy is that?

Oh, and before you start asking questions, let me just answer two for you....

If you are already connected to us in one of the above ways, it still counts! Just leave a comment telling me which one(s) you've already done before!

ANYONE can enter.  You don't have to be a lazy mom to enter.  You can be a lazy dad, a lazy grandma, a lazy aunt, a lazy mom-to-be, whatever!  In fact, even if you aren't a lazy something or other, then go ahead and enter too.  We don't discriminate here on this blog.

*Yowza!*

So have I made this job too complicated for you?  Because really you can participate as little or as much as you want in it.  I guess it just depends on how bad you want a $25 gift card now doesn't it?

Over and out.

Shout Out!

Wow, it's been a while since we've had a SHOUT OUT here on our lazy site, so I'd say it's high time for one!

Recently a lazy mom emailed me a fantabulous craft idea that she came up with and I just had to share it with all of you!

Here's what she had to say about it...
I'm a wannabe-crafty mom who's actually lazy so I came up with this really simple way of transforming some pieces of my twin girls' baby clothing that had sentimental value into artwork I can display in their room.
And here's where you can check it out!  I love it!!

--
P.S. There MAY be a Lazy Mom Job posted tomorrow! Don't miss it!

Things are not always what they seem

Let me show you two pictures of what was going on at my house for part of the day yesterday.

Here's my middle child painting....

Doesn't he look all happy and clean and having fun?  Well surprisingly that part is true.

But doesn't it also look like I'm an awesome mom that got all the paints out and the apron and set him all up for this fun day of painting?

That's where you'd be wrong.

Now, look at this picture from yesterday....

Here my kids (and the neighbor kids) are slip and sliding in my backyard.

Don't they look happy and wet and like their having fun?  Well good, because they are.

But doesn't it also look like I was a super mom and dragged this out of the garage and got it all set up for them and then went above and beyond super momness and invited the neighbor kids over to join in the fun as well?!

Yeah.  Didn't happen that way.  At all.

Basically my kids got all these things out and set them all up and did all this for themselves.  I just gave them a measly "yes" you can do it.

But if I had posted these pictures on my blog and had told you that this was my day yesterday wouldn't you all have assumed I was an amazing super mom?  And that I had done all of this for my kids?

And you would have been wrong.  Very wrong.

And I just couldn't do that to you wonderful lazy moms.  I just couldn't let you think I was a super mom when I'm clearly not. I just couldn't let you all be wrong in your assumptions.  And I just couldn't go against one of the very things we stand for here at I'm a Lazy Mom which is being REAL about motherhood.  The ups and the downs.

You're welcome.

So why am I saying all of this? Because in my opinion the ups of being a mom are blogged about a lot.  The downs?  Not so much.  And I'm all about blogging about the downs as much as the ups.  Although I even tend to post about the ups much more often.

So today I wanted to tell you that things are not always what they seem in blog land (or on Facebook for that matter!).  Sure, my kids had a fun day, but it wasn't really because of me!

But, no, we here at I'm a Lazy Mom are watching out for you.  The real moms out there.  We've got your back.  We'll always do our best to post about how real we are too.  And we do this to help you realize that you're as normal a mother as the next mom.  With ups and downs like the rest of us.

Plus I just have to tell you that I think it's totally awesome that my kids are old enough to do all of this stuff for themselves!  I mean, how great is that?!  For those of you who have preschoolers, just you wait!  Your day is coming!!

See?  This blog post didn't even end the way you thought it should, did it?  Be careful [insert creepy music here] things are not always what they seem!  Muahahahaha!

Something Exciting is Coming!

Oh yes!  Something exciting is coming and I can't wait to tell you all about it!

But I can't yet.

Bummer, I know.

In the meantime, if you click on my "Something Exciting is Coming" button on my sidebar over there you can enter for a chance to win something on the page it takes you to!   Just tell them that The Lazy Mom sent you!

Oh, and be sure and tell your friends to subscribe (or follow) our blog!  It's going to be fun!!

So get ready!  I have some cool things planned around this exciting thing that's coming soon!!!  Eeeeeeeh!

Baby/Toddler Tips

Believe me, I am painfully aware how lacking this lazy, lazy site is of baby/toddler tips.

This is due to the fact that my youngest child is five (soon to be six) and I am no longer in the throws of preschoolness (yes I just made up that word).  And this is also due to the fact that since I have mush for brains because I had three kids so close together, I cannot remember any fantabulous tips from those days gone by.

I've been really hoping to remedy this horrible lack we have, but alas, all my lazy mom friends who have baby/toddlers well, have baby/toddlers and have no time whatsoever to write wonderful tips down for this lazy place on the web that we affectionately call, I'm a Lazy Mom....

I have sent out several pleas on our facebook page, as well as tweeted on our Twitter page about needing all of you wonderful lazy mom's best and brightest tips for baby's and toddlers.

[by the way, we do have this great toddler tip, in case you missed it]

I have gotten two sweet lazy moms respond to my desperate pleas for tips and I'm happy to share their tips with you below in hopes that maybe it will get your wheels turning and you'll realize YOU have a great baby/toddler tip to share as well!  And when you do realize you have a great tip to share, you should immediately send it to me

Like, ASAP.

Mkay?

So here is the first lazy mom baby/toddler tip sent in by Katie...
I have three kids under 5. I never know when someone is going to need a wardrobe change while we are out and about. Most often, we have potty accidents, but every now and then we have the occasional run in with a sprinkler or mud puddle. Or... The other day, my three year old fell in the toilet (yikes).

Anyway...I have a big momma purse/ tote bag that goes with me. Each child has a zip- lock bag with extra clothes. This way, when an accident happens, we just pull out the clean clothes and zip away the dirty. When we get home, I can just dump it right into the washer without worrying that there could be nastiness in my bag or car...

It works for me as long as I remember to re- stock the bags after said accidents.
I love the idea of keeping the change of clothes in a plastic bag!  It keeps it from "infecting" other things in your mom purse and it's easy to dump in the washing machine!  Thanks Katie!

The other lazy mom baby/toddler tip we received is similar, but comes all the way from Australia, so I just had to share it with you!  Here's what Vivianne had to say...
Always keep your nappy/diaper bag stocked and ready to go - I had spare nappies/diapers, talc, creams, wipes, spare clothes and anything else I needed for a day out all kept in the bag - I would check the bag when I got home after a day out and replace anything that was out and make sure everything was always in there.

With the bag always stocked up it was easy to just grab the baby and the bag and get out of the house if you just felt like a shopping trip or someone invited you out for the day. I knew of some mums that never went out with their baby as there was too much for them to organise before they left the house!

I was able to go out any time I felt like it and once I had the 2 boys (baby and toddler) I just put in a few extras for the bigger one and we were still set to go.
Thanks Vivianne! A little pre-planning and organization can help you be a lazy mom later!

So, now it's YOUR turn.  What are your best lazy mom baby/toddler tips that you can share with the rest of us.  Inquiring lazy minds want to know!  So send them to me so somebody doesn't do this!

True Facebook Status Confession!

Okay, you MIGHT be a lazy mom if you post this statement as your facebook status!
I think we might watch the food network to much at our house... my son's playdough dinner was grilled shrimp and grits covered in a white cream sauce topped with basil and finely chopped pepper! He also demanded I call him 'chef'!!! haha!
Isn't that hilarious?!

Seriously! This was a friends facebook status last night and it cracked me up!!!  I just had to share!

Do You Need A REALLY Good Laugh?

Here on I'm a Lazy Mom we like to post funny cartoons and videos to make all you wonderful lazy moms laugh.  It just seems like the right thing to do.

As moms we get stressed out a lot and when the stress level is high, the need for laughter goes up.  At least it does in my book.

Well if you are particularly stressed today, then you're in luck because you are about to laugh until you (dare I say it?) tinkle.

Yes, that's right.  Hold your bladder girls because this video is The Lazy Dad's and my all time FAVORITE comedy routines.  Seriously.  We've been watching it for years after our friends showed it to us (thanks Amy and Eric!) and it never gets old.  We still bust out laughing over it like it's the first time we've heard it.  And I can't believe I've never posted about it before!

So, without further ado, go laugh until you tinkle, mkay?  Oh, and then enjoy your weekend!

Did You Notice?

Uhhhhh, did you notice something about my earlier post today about the most amazing, delicious, scrumdidlyuptious lazy mom dessert EVER?

Come closer and I'll tell you...

Closer....

Clooooser....

A little bit closer....

It had pudding in it.

Did you catch that???

Because I warned you the other day that pudding discussions on I'm a Lazy Mom could go on and on and on.... didn't I?

Good grief, as much as we talk about pudding around here, Jello should just sponsor us already!  Between them and Ford, we'd be set.  Food and transportation.  That's the life.

Now if they'd just catch on!  ;)

The Best Lazy Dessert EVER.

OH. MY. STARS.

(For those of you wondering, that's Texas Talk for "Holy Cow!")

Have I got the BESTEST dessert ever, ever, EVER for you today!

Seriously, it's so scrumdidlyuptious you might possibly die.

I know this for a fact because I had this scrumdidlyuptious dessert at our Party @ Pastor's Fourth of July party.  And I promptly died.

True story.

It was so amazing I practically begged the wonderful lady that made it to leave me some.  "Practically" being a relative term.

It was also so amazing that the last thing I did before I walked out the door and left for Family Camp on Sunday afternoon was to take a bite of this dessert because, sadly, there was no room to take it in the cooler.

It was also so amazing that when we had to turn around because we forgot to pack a tent for a fellow family that needed it, I came into the house to have some more bites of it while my husband searched the garage for the tent.  (shhh... he doesn't know that... well, until now.)

It was ALSO so amazing that when we got home from Family Camp yesterday afternoon I completely died all over again when I saw it sitting in the refrigerator staring back at me with it's big beautifulness while I unloaded our cooler.

Then I promptly ate it for dinner.

But even though I've told you all of those reasons for why this dessert is simply a. maz. ing. I have failed to tell you one of the BEST reasons this dessert is a. maz. ing.

Wait for it.

Waaaaait for it.....

IT'S A LAZY MOM RECIPE!!!!!!

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

When I realized last night that this recipe that the wonderful lady who brought this dessert wrote out for me after I had died eating it at our party was in fact a Lazy Mom Recipe, I promptly died all over again.

Huh?

Basically I was in shock.

In fact, I'm still in shock over it.  AND, not only does it meet all the requirements of cooking the lazy mom way, it is even BETTER than those requirements because it only has FOUR, count 'em, FOUR ingredients.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Yes, this dessert is worth two screams of happiness, just so you know.

So, let's get to it!  Because I want every single one of you to make this dessert and then promptly die.

But not literally, mkay?  I'd hate to have that on my conscious and all.

Chocolate Eclair Dessert

1 small Cool Whip
2 packages french vanilla pudding
1 box graham crackers
1 tub chocolate frosting

Make pudding with 3 1/2 cups of milk.  Then add Cool Whip.  Using an 8x11 dish, put a layer of graham crackers in bottom.  Add layer of Cool Whip mixture. Add another layer of crackers.  Frost the crackers with chocolate.  Add another layer of Cool Whip mixture, then continue layers until crackers are gone. Make sure to frost that last cracker layer with chocolate (and every time you add a cracker layer!)

Good golly Miss Molly!  I'm drooling just typing this recipe up for you!

*slurp*

So quick!  Immediately!  Do not pass Go, do not collect 200 dollars!  GO MAKE THIS DESSERT RIGHT NOW.

You'll thank me for it.  For real this time.

Pudding Recipes

So not too long ago, I posted about a lazy way to make your own pudding pops

Which then led to this post about an even LAZIER way to make pudding pops.

To which led to THIS post about if the lazier way even works.

And if you thought that THREE posts was sufficient enough to discuss pudding on I'm a Lazy Mom, then you were just plain wrong.

This post will make four.

Aren't you glad you're a subscriber?

Anyway, in that second post about pudding pops a fellow lazy mom who lives in England (but hails from the U.S.) was in great distress because they do not sell American style pudding in England.

This was a very serious thing we needed to address on this here blog.

I mean this poor lazy mom is WITHOUT American pudding way across the pond and we simply must, I mean, MUST help her.

There were a few suggestions of what she should do in the comments of that second pudding pop post, but it basically boiled down to her needing to find a lazy recipe of how to make her own American pudding.

(stick with me)

My long time BFF and fellow Lazy Mom, Chana, took it upon herself to help this mom out who was in emotional and mental turmoil over not having American pudding.

Well, at least we perceived her to be in emotional and mental turmoil.

She may not actually be.

Sometimes we exaggerate around here.

But not often.

*Ahem*

So Lazy Mom Chana, which by the way currently lives in China of all places, could totally relate to this lazy mom's predicament in England.  Because, well, she lives in CHINA, did you catch that?

[Gosh, aren't we all International and stuff on I'm a Lazy Mom?!  We even had an Australian Lazy Mom post here on Monday. Any other continents or countries out there want to give us a shout out?]

So Chana took it upon herself to find some recipes for this fellow lazy mom.  And here is what she had to say about them...
I did some research about making your own pudding.... the problem is, you can make a mix, but you still have to cook the pudding. I can't find a mix you don't have to cook. Still, if you make up a batch of the mix ahead of time, you cut the work down to just adding milk and heating.... so that's kind of lazy. Then you can use the pudding for pies, pops, whatever.

So, here are some of the better recipes I found (I'm especially impressed with the butterscotch pudding recipe!)

Vanilla Pudding Mix

3 cups nonfat dry milk

4 cups sugar

1/2 tsp. nutmeg

1 tsp. salt

3 cups cornstarch

1/2 tsp. vanilla extract

Mix all except the vanilla, and store in an airtight container. To prepare, mix 1/2 cup of mix to 2 cups milk. Heat and stir constantly while boiling. Cool, then add 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract.

Chocolate Pudding Mix

2 1/2 cups nonfat dry milk

5 cups sugar

3 cups cornstarch

1 tsp. salt

2 1/2 cups unsweetened cocoa

Mix and store in airtight container. To prepare, add 2/3 cup mix to 2 cups milk. Heat and stir constantly while boiling. Cool, then serve.

Coconut Cream Pudding Mix

3 cups nonfat dry milk

4 cups sugar

1 tsp. salt

3 cups cornstarch

1 1/2 cups shredded unsweetened coconut

1 tsp. coconut extract

Mix the extract and the shredded coconut in a small bowl until the extract is absorbed. Add the coconut to the other ingredients and store in airtight container. To prepare, add 2/3 cup mix to 2 cups milk. Heat and stir constantly while boiling. Cool, then serve.

Butterscotch Pudding Mix

2 cups nonfat dry milk

5 cups brown sugar, packed

1 tsp. salt

3 cups cornstarch

Mix and store in airtight container. To prepare, add 1/2 cup mix to 2 cups milk. Heat and stir constantly while boiling. Cool, then serve.

So there you have it Debbie (our emotionally and mentally distressed lazy mom in England - who now shouldn't be emotionally and mentally distressed at all!)  Let us know if you use them.

And if any of you out there know of an instant pudding mix recipes, let us know!

This pudding discussion could just go on and on and on and on...........

I know you're all excited about that.

Are You Keeping Up With It?

You may have noticed on my tweets yesterday that while we are at Family Camp, I totally brought my totally wonderful Lazy Mom Snack Bin totally with me.  Totally.

I mean, that's one of the main reasons I made my snack bin portable, so it could be, well, portable.  You know, as in, go places with us.  As in, then I can be a lazy mom somewhere else other than home.

*ahem*

So while I have my totally wonderful Lazy Mom Snack Bin here at Family Camp I couldn't help but wonder to my totally wonderful self, "Self, I wonder if the totally wonderful lazy moms out there that have also made Lazy Mom Snack Bins have kept up with 'em?"

And so I'm left wondering.... have you???

Because as of late, here are our newest snack finds that totally grace our Lazy Mom Snack Bin.

We found these at Sam's Club and they are the totally perfect size for snacking.  The kids love 'em (and so does The Lazy Dad).

We also have added these to our snack bin repertoire...

and I must say that these are fast becoming MY new favorite snack bin addiction of choice.

So if you've all been wondering if this here Lazy Mom has been keeping up with my snack bin, the answer is TOTALLY.  I refill it about once a week or so.  And it is totally one of the bestity, best, best things EVER.

Now it's your turn.  Have you been keeping up with your Lazy Mom Snack Bin?!?!

'fess up!!

And by the way... I'd love any snack suggestions you may have.  We're totally willing to try (almost) anything!

Cook, Clean, Craft with Narelle!

Hey there, it's Narelle from Cook Clean Craft. I'm a lazy Mum from Brisbane, Australia. It was quite a shock for me to realise this when I first stumbled on this blog. I used to be such a perfectionist! Go with the flow - that's the best way with parenting...

If you're looking for Stacey, you'll have to stop by my blog today - we're blog-swapping!

Cook Clean Craft

I have a 17 month old son, and have number 2 scheduled to arrive in October. Two kids under two - what was I thinking? A lazy Mum wouldn't put herself through this, would she? Especially one with no family living in the same state (2.5 hours on a plane for the closest grandparent, 5 hours to the furthest, and yes, they all live in Australia!). I've heard the reasoning: similar age = similar stage of development = similar games/activities/abilities for both of them = great friends (hmmm, we'll see about that...).

I need a lazy Mum strategy to get through those first crazy weeks/months/years... So what is the plan? Here's my 5 step strategy:

1.  My son expects a certain level of lazy Mum-ness from me, but I'm upping the ante here. Time for my baby to stand on his own two feet - that's right, I'm minimising the time I spend carrying him around, and he can walk/crawl up and down the stairs by himself now (ok, with a bit of help from Mum). If he has a tantrum and won't go up the stairs, I sit on the stairs and wait...

2.  Along similar lines, I'm also trying to encourage playing by himself more often, with special times of full Mummy interaction. It doesn't always work, but he is building up his independent play skills (so I'm obviously doing this for his benefit, rather than my own).

3.  The thing that drives me the most nuts about my son is the toys everywhere (and by toys, I mean anything from any cupboard and drawer that he can access...). So what is the lazy Mum approach - limit what he can access. We have a gated playroom, so most of the toys are contained there. He knows what kitchen drawers and cupboards he's allowed to play in, but let's just say the number of things in those drawers is about to reduce significantly. As are the number of toys in the toybox in the main living area (with a rotation scheme to be implemented!). I'm also contemplating making access more difficult to our entertainment unit cabinets and/or using tightly sealed boxes to store the stuff in there, so it's harder for him to pull stuff out.

4. I'm also going to prepare a quiet time activity bag - it's going to be a bit of work now, but hopefully will allow some laziness (ok, peace and quiet while I feed the bub). I'm going to set aside a few new books, maybe make a felt activity book, some sorting type games etc.

5.  Lastly, I know there will be some out there who won't approve, but I'm going to fill the PVR with high quality kids TV shows. I'm not going to turn the TV on and let him watch any old rubbish when I want some peace. I'm going to have a stockpile of suitable shows, recorded on the PVR so I won't even have to get off the couch to put them on (assuming the remote is nearby).

Anyone else been through this and have any tips for me? I'd love to hear them in the comments. I hope you pop by Cook Clean Craft sometime, for family recipes, cleaning tips and crafty ideas (and say hi to Stacey today!).

Thought You Might Like to Know

This is my current view of what's in front of me...

Yes, that's right. I'm in the car, on my laptop and I'M BLOGGING WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD!

How cool is that?!?!?!

Well, I'm not driving down the road... Lazy Dad is.  That might be a little dangerous if I were.  And in case you're wondering, we're not in his fine new ride, we're in our Expedition with Ol' Beauty on the back end of it.  Because we're on our way to Family Camp!

We just love Family Camp!!

So what does this mean for all of you?

I'm glad you asked.

Remember when I first got on Twitter?  And I told you all I was going camping and I was going to tweet about camping the lazy mom way?  Well guess what?!  If you follow me on Twitter you'll see more camping the lazy mom way tips coming at'cha! (and well, some may be repeats from our last camping adventure)

Isn't that just so exciting?

I thought so too.

But not as exciting as blogging while driving down the road is!  Could you just die that I can do that?!

Okay, but the excitement just left me because now I'm horribly car sick.  BLAH.

I guess that's the price I pay for doing cool things.  While driving down the road.

Because we all know I'm totally cool.

All of us know that, right?

I mean there's no way you could miss my utter coolness.

I exude it.

I radiate with it.

It pretty much oozes out of me.

Okay, that last one was a little weird.

So just tell me I'm cool so I'll stop already, mkay?

Better go.

Gotta watch the road before I lose my coolness all over my shoes.
