Sock Tip Update

I thought it might be good of me to post an update on my supercalifragilisticexpialidocious sock tip (aka: Lazy Mom Tip #49) for all of you.

What? I like to use big words to show my intelligence.

So what if it's a made up big word.

And that Mary Poppins sang it.

And I had to look up how to spell it.

And I have no clue what it means.

But anyway, there are some things that I have learned now that I've been using this tip for well over a month. Things that you may possibly benefit from if you've yet to implement this supercalifragilisticexpi... well, you know, tip.

Here's what I've learned..... (prepare for greatness)..... (maybe)....


I've noticed that if I let the sock bags get TOO full, the socks are pretty heavy and can tend to rip the flimsy lingerie bag a little.  Especially Lazy Dad's sock bag because his socks are like 9 feet long each and his bag fills up faster than the rest of ours do.

Solution? Either buy heavier dutier lingerie bags, or wash more often to avoid this problem.

Lazy Mom Solution? Buy a whole stash of cheap-o lingerie bags and switch out ones that tear or the zipper breaks on.  Cause the good Lord knows I'm not washing more often to avoid this problem.


I've also noticed that when the bags are too full there tends to be some socks that don't quite get all the way dry in the bag.

Solution? Wash more often to avoid bags that are too full.

Lazy Mom Solution? Turn the dryer back on for a little bit more drying time and they come out juuuust fine.  Cause like I said, the good Lord knows I'm not washing more often.

Hey? You've got to work with what your willing to do here folks.  Make it easier, not harder.  Or I guess we could say it like this... make it easier, not stupider.


Now some of you have made comments saying that they just weren't sure their kids would put their socks in the sock bag every night.  I am happy to report that since implementing this tip I have only had a handful of random socks go through the wash.

But the great thing about that is... I know exactly who the culprit is because of the sock's size and/or color.  So I "gently" remind them to remember to use their sock bag as I hand them their loose socks back.

Now the fact that my children (and even Lazy Dad) have been so good about using their sock bags may be due to the fact that they too were as sick of the huge laundry basket full of socks and having to sort for a match every day in it as much as I was, and that out of their happiness to NOT have to do that anymore they are happy to use their sock bags.

Yes, I'm aware of what a run-on sentence that is.  Let's just choose not focus on it and move past it. It's the mature thing to do.

Seriously, my kids think the sock bags are cool.  Not sure why, but in case you are wondering, yes, I do exploit that on every level possible.

So there's my sock tip update.  If you aren't using this supercalifragilisticexpialidocious sock tip yet then you are TRULY missing out.  I no longer avoid washing "the whites."  My sock laundering life has improved 10 billion percent.  And therefore my grumpy housewife mood has diminished by 10 percent.

Yes, I'm aware that those percentage amounts don't correspond equally.

LONG LIVE THE SOCK BAG!
