It's inevitable.
Every summer a pesky little noise maker finds it's way into our basement. Namely, a cricket, of monstrous proportions, that rubs it's legs together all night long and chirps and chirps and chirps.
Did I mention this is ALL. NIGHT. LONG?
And that the horrendous sound carries it's way all through the air vents of our house?
And that this prevents me from my much needed beauty sleep?
I mean, I'm not just gorgeous for nothing, people! I attribute most of it to my beauty sleep.
And an incredible amount of moisturizer and begging and pleading with my face to not form crevices and fall down on me.
Anywho. Back to the cricket.
I noticed we had our basement cricket for this year about a week or so ago. Every night as I was getting ready for bed I'd hear the *chirp* *chirp* *chirping* through the air vent.
UGH.
And you know the funny thing about basement crickets? YOU CAN'T FIND THEM FOR NOTHIN'.
It's like looking for a needle in a haystack, folks. It ain't. gonna. happen.
So.
Every night.
Chirping.
Through the vents.
But alas! Just this morning! The skies part, the sun shines, the air is crisp and cool, and what do my wondering eyes see??
My son victoriously holding his bug box WITH THE BASEMENT CRICKET INSIDE!!
VICTORY IS MINE!!!
Well, okay, it's his. (isn't he cute?)
**Breaking News Bulletin** The basement cricket of 2011 has been caught. By a super cool 8 year old on a mission to rid the world of basement crickets everywhere. A world hounded by basement crickets that chirp all night long and keep sleeping people from being, well, sleeping people. We thank you dear 8 year old. You're helping make the world a better place (for sleeping). And this concludes our **Breaking News Bulletin**

Can I borrow your son? We have a BEDROOM cricket! AUGH! No sleeping here.
ReplyDeleteGood job little man sleep in the house can continue!
ReplyDeleteOur garage somehow ends up full of crickets. It drives me insane. And, there's one living right outside of our bedroom window. I'm thisclose to setting the lawn on fire to get rid of it.
ReplyDeleteThat is too funny! We have grasshoppers everywere here in OK!
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome.
ReplyDeleteWhen we were little we used to get birds in our chimney in the summer. A few times they got stuck....and when trying to capture them and set them free.....they would get lose in the house.
Oh fun times.
Hubby says that we have a cricket under our bedroom window, but I guess I've got great selective hearing because I never hear it (until he points it out of course!)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad your pest control issue was resolved!
He looks very proud to have caught The Great Basement Cricket of 2011. :)
ReplyDeleteMy 14yo came home from soccer camp and threw all her dirty clothes on the floor in front of the washer. I was actually proud of that. But she brought home 2 friends of the same species you mention here. I got 1 but the other got away and hopped under the washer and now is in the bathroom or somewhere driving me nuts!
ReplyDeleteA cricket in the house is supposed to bring luck!
ReplyDeleteCan he come to my house? I gecko slipped in last night and made it to our TV room. I have one girl who will scream and the other (baby) well who knows...I just hope he doesn't hop on her.
ReplyDeleteThat would be #1 reason why a boy is good to have in a house. Bug catcher/spider stomper. You are training him well!
ReplyDeletemy dad used to raise crickets (to feed to his reptiles). I fell asleep to the song of crickets often. Actually he kept his crickets in the shed usually, but we always had a few crickets in our basement-- yet another reason to NOT have a basement.... the list keeps getting longer.
ReplyDeleteHa ha too funny and can so relate to the chirping sounds. So glad you got him and hope you have a uninterupted sleep tonight!
ReplyDeleteUGH. Better him than me! I don't do bugs!! Ew.
ReplyDeleteHopefully he doesn't want to keep it as a pet :)
ReplyDeleteThat totally cracked me up! Who doesn't have a (substitute any room of the house) cricket? They are soooo annoying! Congrats on the victory!!!
ReplyDeleteLOL!!! That's awesome! Your son could probably make big bucks this summer!!!
ReplyDeleteWow, how do you have ONLY one cricket in your house??? We always have a bunch.
ReplyDeleteDoes he catch mice as well?
ReplyDeleteNot that we have any, but my cat is sooooo lazy...
Enjoy your new pet!!!
ReplyDeleteBut...are you sure that's *the* cricket?
ReplyDeleteI guess you'll find out tonight...
;-)
