Gosh. It's been AGES since we've had a Lazy Mom Tip on here. I don't know what happened. Oh wait, summer happened. That's what.
To make up for my lack of lazy tips, I thought I'd share with you 5 Lazy Mom Quick Tips to help a lazy mom out.
Here we go.
Quick Tip #1:
Stinky bathroom? No air freshener? Spray your shower curtain with body spray or perfume. The scent stays longer because it's sprayed on the shower curtain and not in the air.
Quick Tip #2:
Cutting board moving all around your counter as you cut? That's not only annoying, it's dangerous! A lazy mom needs all her fingers! Place one of those non-slip shelf liners under your cutting board and keep those fingers! (If you don't have any, use a couple of those rubber jar grippers you use to open cans with under your board.)
Quick Tip #3:
When I need to put leftovers (particularly sauces) into a Ziploc bag to go in the freezer, I learned not so long ago a simple trick that keeps me from having to deal with a messy bag and a saucy kitchen counter. Because I've already got enough sauciness to deal with in my children.
Turn the top of the bag down. Turn the top inch or so of the
Ziploc down to the outside. Then when you spoon in or pour in your
leftover Sloppy Joe's or spaghetti sauce or what-have-you, it doesn't
get all over the business portion of the bag. Namely, it doesn't fill
the zipper part with unwanted sauce that you have to try to clean out so
it will close properly. It doesn't get all over the outside of the
bag, it stays off the counter. ~ Anne
Quick Tip #4:
I've been using a cleaning technique I found on Pintrest. It's sort of a lazy mom thing. You take your stove grates & put them in a bag with ammonia overnight (outside) and the grease just wipes off.
It works! My stove looks amazing. I'm never cooking again! ~ Suzie
Quick Tip #5:
I have felt really overwhelmed lately. Our dish washer broke some time ago (like over a year ago...ugh) and I feel like I'm constantly either putting dishes away or cleaning them.
Well, one day I said to myself, "Self. You're crazy! Why don't you buy some paper plates and cups?" And I answered back, "*GASP* Can I DO THAT?". And apparently you CAN do that, because I've been using NOTHING but paper plates and plastic cups for about a week now. Not just for lunch...but for DINNER too. I know. I feel so bad!
There's a very small part of me that feels like I shouldn't be so lazy, but there's an even bigger part of me that says, "ZIP IT, YOU! I need a break!" So, probably the average mom has already figured that out, but for some reason it took me 8 long years to allow myself to take that short cut. ~ Traci

To go a step further with Anne's great tip... to help keep the bag upright
and open as you commence with your "sauce wrangling," put the baggie with it's top turned down into a 2 cup or 4 cup measuring cup (2 cup for quart, 4 cup for gallon). As Anne says, "so you no
longer need to secretly wish to be part octopus."

At our house, paper plates are fondly referred to as "the good china". lol
ReplyDeleteFirst, for half a second I thought you were going to say "If you don't have any (fingers??)" but the shelf liner makes much more sense! I always see those at the dollar store.
ReplyDeleteSecond, I was just thinking this morning that I can keep up with all the cooking & all the teaching (we homeschool, and I also teach Sunday school & now Monday night at church) but keeping up with those dishes (I have a dishwasher but rent an old house with no hookup for it... it's quite tragic) is the straw that will break the camels back. As soon as the kids wake up, I am going to buy allergy medicine (my husband asked me a few days ago & I forgot- maybe this will help me remember) and paper plates & cups. Oh, and ammonia because the stove in this rental house is older than me.
Paper plates and plastic utensils too!!! It is so worth $4 a week to buy, plates, bowls, spoons, and forks. With four kids, I'm outnumbered! I was going to work with dirty dishes piled high just because of breakfast. I go to family dollar and get my supplies. We don't need quality, just something to eat on!
ReplyDeleteGreat TIPS! I love the shower curtain tip, especially in a house full of boys.
ReplyDeleteBesides shelf liners and jar-grips for under the cutting board, you can also make do with a wet-and-wrung-out-dishcloth.
