I don't know what came over me last night.
Was there an earthquake somewhere?
Did the heavens shift?
Was there a full moon?
Because out of NO WHERE I made this.
That's right people, I done did made that cute little Noel pillow. And I even pulled out this.
Something that had been rotting in my basement for YEARS.
And I blame ALL of this out of character unlaziness and creativity on one little ol' sweet person. Traci Romine.
Traci writes Decorating the Lazy Mom Way every other Wednesday on this here blog.
This here one.
(Let me just pause here a minute to say, if you aren't following Traci on her blog yet, I'm gonna smack you!... go follow her already! Just click on the "join this site" button on the sidebar. She's such fun!)
I mentioned a while back that for our MOPS group in November we Skyped Traci in to give us decorating ideas for the holidays. She had displays set up for us, she had a tutorial for us, she even walked us around her WHOLE house and showed us all the fabulous (and thrifty!) ideas she had implemented in her home. It was FAB. U. LOUS. (I highly recommend her for your events!)
During her walk-through that night, she showed us some pillows she had made. We all Oo'd and Aw'd over how cute they were, but y'all, these weren't some fancy dancy pillows she slaved over for hours on end. NOOOOOO. Not the brilliant Traci Romine. These pillows of hers were made out of three dollar fabric PLACE MATS. Seriously! She simply opened one of the seams, stuffed the inside and sewed it up! Instant adorable pillows!
We all died.
We were all totally inspired.
We couldn't stop talking about her ingenious thrifty idea for a pillow.
The next day I got a text from one of the moms in our group with a picture of her brand spankin' new place mat pillows that Traci inspired.
SooOOooOOoo, I too had been thinking about making some place mat pillows. Especially with all the cute little Christmas place mats laying around stores everywhere these days. But I just couldn't find some I truly loved. And there's this funny thing about me... I have to TRULY love it, if I'm going to buy it.
THEN! I had a stroke of genius! While we were decorating the house for Christmas, I came across our table runner that matches our tree skirt.
The table runner isn't long enough for our table, so every year while pulling out Christmas decorations I pull it out, remember how cute it is, remember it isn't long enough for our table to hang properly, look around for somewhere else to put it, can't find anywhere else that will work, and stuff it back in the bin to do all over again next Christmas. Poor little neglected table runner.
BUT NOT THIS YEAR.
This year I remembered Traci's fabulous place mat pillows and wondered if I could use the same idea on my table runner.
And so I inspected it. It did in fact have fabric on both sides of it. So it could be stuffed!
And so I cut it to the size I wanted.
And so I stuffed it. (okay, my son did.)
And so I sewed it up.
And so viola'!
A cute little Noel pillow for Christmas!
Actually, I made two of them... each end of the table runner had Noel on it.
And so I threw them around my house in various places.
And I'm all proud of myself.
And Lazy Dad checked me for a fever when he got home and saw what I had done.
And alas! I was fever free!
This, my dears, is a true Christmas miracle. The Lazy Mom, fever-free, did something crafty!
And it's all Traci's fault.
In fact, I've started a pin board on my pinterest entitled, "Stuff Traci Romine Made Me Do."
Cause I'm sure she'll strike again!

Girl - you rock! Love this idea...might need to go and get some placemats today!

ReplyDeleteit's all your fault I bought a cute placemat at Target last night. Will post pictures later.
ReplyDeleteHere is the link to my pillow. I never even pulled out the sewing machine. The boys (13 & 10) are fighting over it so I have to go back and get the stuff to make another!
