Okay, is it just me, or is McDonald's doing a good job of introducing healthier items to their menu these days?
Just yesterday I had their new Apple Cinnamon Walnut Oatmeal (I was already a fan of their Fruit and Maple Oatmeal) and it was yum! yum! and DOUBLE YUM! -as my daughter likes to say.
Seriously, if you haven't had the new oatmeal yet, go get some soon! It's only around for a limited time. Which makes me sad seeing that it's seriously good stuff and I like it even better than the Fruit and Maple one.
Anyway! Also coming soon to McDonald's everywhere (but already available now in NW Ohio and SE Michigan) is the new McDonald's Happy Meal®!
The new Happy Meal®, coming soon to a McDonald's near you, will now automatically come with apple slices as a side item, whether you ask for them or not! McDonald's is very excited about this new option behind their "Commitment to Offer Improved Nutrition Choice" initiative and anticipates introducing upwards of "100 million cups of produce annually into the diets of our youngest customers."
In addition to apple slices, the meal also automatically comes with a new smaller (and cuter) size of french fries. If you don't want the fries at all, an additional bag of apples is available to replace them, so you can still control whether or not your child receives fries in their meal.
Here's my daughter modeling the cute new french fries box from her Happy Meal® when we grabbed McDonald's to eat before church the other night.
She loved that she got both apples and french fries in her meal that were sized perfectly for her. (Plus did I mention how cute the smaller french fry box is?) My boys, who are moving toward the bigger Mighty Kids Meals® since they are *sniff* getting older, felt there wasn't enough food in the new Happy Meal®, so they weren't quite as fond of the changes as their sister was.
But I think this new automatic offering of fruit in every Happy Meal® is smart. Before, kids had to choose between apples and fries. And uh, HELLO, what would you choose if you were a kid?! It turns out that only 11% of kids were choosing apples before. Now, the choice is eliminated for them (unless you opt to only have apples) and parents have a great chance to get more fruit in their children's diets.
Be on the lookout for these new Happy Meals® at your local McDonald's!
Do you live in NW Ohio or SE Michigan and want to try the new Happy Meal® out with your kids? Enter to win Happy Meal® cards to try the new Happy Meal® out for free using the Rafflecopter form below! There will be 2 winners - each receiving 5 cards!

Isn't it great! We've had the new happy meals here for at least a few months. And I agree, then french fries box is to die for!! The first time I saw it, I couldn't get over how incredibly tiny it was! It looks like a toy one made for those play food sets, LOL!
ReplyDeleteBut yeah, it's pretty awesome that McD's gives fruit automatically. Great to see the 'not-so-healthy' companies making steps to keeping kids healthier.
What a great idea, my daughter loves the apples but always asks for a few fries.
ReplyDeleteI thought the french fry boxes were SO Cute!!!
ReplyDeletethe french fry boxes are cute :)
ReplyDeleteADORABLE fry boxes! (Although, I have to be honest...I used to get my two daughters each a Happy Meal and I would split one of the bags of fries for them - then eat the other bag myself. I guess I actually have to BUY my own fries now! :)

We have these new meals in Wisconsin, and my son loves em, we do bring along our own caramel for dipping the apples since they took that away.
ReplyDeleteWe've had the new happy meals in MA for a while, and I gotta say I love how apples come with all of the meals now (we always asked for them in the past, but they constantly "forgot"), but I hate how small the serving size of apples in now. It's a good idea in theory, but they are still giving more fries than apples.
ReplyDeletesuper cute! :)
ReplyDeleteWe have those already here in MA. Youngest and I stopped in the other day because it was too late for lunch and too early for dinner. We both got happy meals and the portion size was just enough to hold us off until dinner.
ReplyDeleteBut Youngest is also with your boys, on a normal day, only a medium sized number three (minus the bun) will do.
We love the New Happy meal! I don't have to argue with my kids when I order apples and they want fries!
ReplyDeleteI like the addition of apples
ReplyDeleteI love that they are going more healthy and still giving a tiny fry.
ReplyDeleteMy kids eat all of there apples! They love them. They eat them a lot at home anyways but I love they are now in the happy meals as well. The new fry boxes are so cute. We've had them in NY now for about 2 months. :)
ReplyDeleteWe've had them here for awhile...but I didn't find out until after someone posted it on Facebook...Unless the grandparents/aunts/uncles etc get our kids one whenthey are visiting them they don't have them...Although it's a great idea in theory!!! As much as I miss fast food (mostly the convienience) I love making fresh food for the kids...even when it is a rushed evening, which is hard and that was the biggest reason we ate so much fast food before-out of convienience...Hey Maybe Sassy Sis will request Mcdonalds for her birthday dinner haha!!!
ReplyDeleteMy son does not like fries that much so the kiddie fry and apples are a great fit for him
ReplyDeleteIt would be nice for a treat. :)
ReplyDeleteEat McDonald's? My kids NEVER eat McDonald's (cough, cough). We only eat home cooked meals full of vegetables and fruit and whole grains. BUT, I'd like to win so that I can...uh...can...let my kids try McDonald's for the first time. (choke, choke)
