12 Years of Marriage and the Anniversary Card That Doesn't Make Sense.

Today is Lazy Dad and my Anniversary.

12 years of twists, turns, ups, downs, highs, lows.  You know, the kind of roller coaster ride every marriage has.

This morning I woke up to find a sweet little surprise waiting for me in the kitchen.  And by sweet, I mean SWEET!

A 12 pack of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups.  Mm, mm.

(12 pack... get it? 12... for 12 years of marriage?)

(Okay, I'll be honest, it didn't dawn on me until I called him to thank him for it.)

(What? Sometimes I'm a little slow, but Jesus still loves me.)

(So there.)

So I called him to thank him for the 12 pack of sweetness, but I also called him to razz him a little bit.

You see, the card he got me?  Um, I don't think it makes sense.  I read the front.  Read the inside.  And uh, didn't get it (again, I'm sometimes a little slow, but Jesus still loves me, remember?).

So I'm thinking to myself, "Self! Why don't I get this card?  I don't get the punch line.  Something seems weird here."

And then I realized, it's because (in my opinion) the card was meant for a wife to give to a husband! NOT for a husband to give a wife.  And so I laughed to myself, "Self! That's funny!"

So yeah, I called to razz him about that.  (But just a little... it is our anniversary after all.)

But as the razzing commenced, Lazy Dad stood his ground.  HE believes the card is totally meant for a husband to give to a wife.

He even threw in another man's opinion... a fella he was with when he picked the card out totally thought the card was perfect for him to give me.

*I* still think it's meant to be given the other way around.

So I said to him, "Well, this just showcases how different we think!" and we both chuckled. Because, okay, if you haven't learned to embrace your differences after 12 years of marriage, good luck to you! Plus, that's just funny.

And so, my dear lazy moms, I need your help.  (You didn't think you'd get out of this, did you?)

What say you?

Does this anniversary card make sense from a husband to a wife?  Or from a wife to a husband?  (Or maybe both??) Help us out!

The front:

The inside:

Okay, even just reading that again, I still think this is a card meant for a wife to give a husband!  What do you think???

  1. I don't really understand the card either. Is the "wife's way" supposed to mean that she's giving the husband the mop, or that she's doing the mopping herself? Are you supposed to hope the husband will help with the housework and be prepared to do it yourself? I don't get it. Give this card to no one. LOL

  2. Totally meant for a wife to give to a husband!!!

  3. Wife to give husband, but it's still really confusing. Is the wife's way that she enjoys moping?

  4. This card makes as much sense to me as the Opening ceremonies for the London Olympics. I'm with Shellina in that I'm even confused what option #2 means. Sorry Lazy Dad you're on your own with this one. :)

  5. The card itself is confusing. If I had to choose, however, I'd say it was meant for a wife to give to her husband. But at least he gave you an anniversary card!

  6. It seems more like a card to give to the husband, but I suppose it could work both ways if it HAD to :p

  7. I can see where Lazy Dad is coming from. We all know the old joke - the husband's way and then the right way (meaning, the wive's way). So, as far as cleaning goes, there's the husband's way - leave it alone, the wife's way - it needs to be cleaned, or the compromise - the wife handing the mop to the husband.

    I think.

It's a very confusing card. And it's not at all liberating for either of the sexes. It implies 1) that the only compromise is for the husband to do the work and 2) it also implies that it's the woman's job to do the cleaning if she can't "get" her husband to do it?

As any woman who has been married for more than 12 years (14 here - woot!), we know that compromise is shared responsibility - not pawning responsibility off on someone else.

    *blush*

  8. I'd say it's neither.

It's meant for SOMEONE ELSE to give the couple. Like, I would give it to you both and it'd be a joke about how the goal is to compromise but everyone knows where it's going to end up.

It's not a very complimentary card tho, since it implies that the husband is a bum, kinda :) I'm not saying YOUR husband is a bum...

    Happy Anniversary!

    1. This is what I was going to say, too.......it's from someone else entirely to wish a couple Happy Anniversary.

    3. I completely agree with this comment. This is a card someone else would give a married couple.

    4. Yep, that's what I was going to say. It's for someone else to give to the couple and that's why it doesn't make sense for EITHER of you to give to each other! Lol!!!

  9. i could see it interpreted either way. He's saying, strive to get me to do the cleaning, but be prepared to settle for doing it yourself.

  10. Husband to wife. he is telling you to strive for #3...but be prepared b/c it's most likely going to be #2. You do it.

  11. I'm saying you see if for wife-to-husband because that's the way it was written. I'm thinking your hubby got funny (or progressive or something!) and is really looking at the GOOD in a long relationship, the compromise. He's seeing #3, the compromise, as the choice each of you would actually pick, instead of his way/her way? Or at least, in my head, that makes sense and makes him look like a really good hubby!?!?!? =) At least he got you a card . . . I got ZILCH on my anniversary this year, but we did have plans made for several days after, to be fair!!!!

  12. Ok, let a single gal interrupt. Hubby wants to sit on couch w/remote watching TV. Wife wants to hubby to help clean. Compromise is hubby on couch w/o a remote which means he will not be watching TV cause what man is going to get up to channel surf! So a wise husband knows that he is going to end up helping w/the cleaning. So Josh is just being a good husband & letting you know that he understands that Lazy Mom will get her way. He may even be trying to tell you that he will cover all of the cooking and cleaning details during your anniversary week ; )

  13. I agree that it's meant for someone else to give to both of you. But if I had to choose one or the other, I'd say it was from husband to wife.

  14. I think your hubs might be working from the words of the card, not the pictures. In other words, most of the time the "wife's way" wins. Compromise is a nice goal, but usually, the wife gets her way...Make sense? IF he clears it up, make sure to let us know!

  15. LOLOLOL!!! Totally for wife to husband... why would wife strive for #3?! It's the husband that strives for that... but ends up getting #2 instead.

  16. I agree with those that said it's for someone to give to the couple.... from a married couple to a newly wed, giving advice. But kudos to Lazy Husband for actually remembering and bringing home a card (as confusing as it is) and for NOT buying you a vacuum or blender ! Happy Anniversary to you both!

  17. As I pondered this conundrum, it struck me that perhaps the punch line contained a play on words. Shoot for compromise, but be ready for #2, as in "number two". (Potty humor.)
But when looking at he vs she only, if you broaden things beyond just cleaning, it would be the husband telling his wife that while compromise is the ideal, he concedes that ultimately she will be the one with the final word. (For some husbands this may indeed be comparable to "number two"!)

  18. Maybe he meant to say that he is giving in to doing it your way :) :0?!! Happy wife, happy life??
