After our visit to Brenham Texas and Blue Bell, we figured we were so close to Austin, we might as well continue the indoctrination of my half-Texans by visiting the state capitol.
An Aunt and Uncle of mine have a fabulous condo there that they let us stay in.
Isn't it just gorgeous?
Once I saw this beautiful condo I declared I might never go back to Ohio.
Can you blame me?
Oh! And speaking of this Aunt and Uncle, have I ever told you I have an Aunt that is from England?
That's her on the left. (Not to be confused with my Uncle on the right.)
I can't even begin to tell you how cute it was when she hugged my children and said in her adorable British accent, "I'm your British Auntie!"
Seriously. It's definitely one of my favorite moments of this trip. Plus, slightly confusing for my children to find a British Auntie in Texas. (Not really. I just thought that was kind of funny.)
Anyway!
After a luxurious night in my British Auntie's beautiful condo... (People, check out the bathroom already!)
...we set out to tour the capitol. It was so much fun to see it looming on the streets in front of us.
Wow. Talk about a beautiful capitol!
The grandeur of the building and the grounds around it were just beautiful.
The monuments on the "Great Walk" in front of the capitol provided lots of great Texas indoctrination lessons for my half-Texans.
And I had completely forgotten how beautiful the capitol itself is. Inside is just gorgeous.
The rotunda is breathtaking.
And wouldn't you know it, while we were standing there mouths gaping at the beauty of this area of the building, a choir started singing the National Anthem. It was beautiful. And so patriotically appropriate.
The details of the Texas State Capitol are incredible.
Especially considering that all of this intricate wood work was built in the 1800's.
The doors were even "stop in your tracks" beautiful.

Down to the doorknobs...
Even to the hinges!
Talk about paying attention to the details!
The staircases were big and grand and Southern.
My half-Texans learned a lot about Texas history by all of the paintings and photographs.

We loved seeing the historical features in the Texas State Senate and House of Representatives rooms.
I loved the attention to detail on the chairs.
These ones I want in my house!
The Texas Lone Star was EVERYWHERE. The ceiling, the fixtures, the chairs, everywhere!
The Governor's Public Reception room was so lovely.
Unfortunately, he wasn't in. I asked.
But perhaps, this will be a future Texas Governor?
A Texas Mama can hope, can't she?
And of course, we couldn't find a library from up above and then NOT visit it.
LOVED this table around a pole.
