My Half-Texans as Texans (What? It Made Sense In My Head.)

While the kids and I were in Texas I took the opportunity to take some pictures of them.

All I had with me was my cell phone.  But it takes pretty good pictures (I love my phone!)

I wanted pictures of my Half-Texans dressed up as Texans.

Just hanging out in downtown Nacogdoches. My hometown.

I love how the pictures turned out.

Even though I am NO photographer!

Watch out mama's!

My Half-Texans make pretty good looking Texans!

One might not even know that they weren't born there!

I love the old Mercantile store (it's the store that has that awesome Coca-Cola mural on the side of it).

We went in to see if we could open our glass coke bottles, since they were the real deal and needed a thingy to open them.  You know, a glass bottle opener thingy?  (What ARE those things called?!)

Success!

Then I showed the kids how to drink their cokes with peanuts.

Have you ever done that before?  You pour the peanuts in the coke bottle.  Glass bottles are the best for this.

I love that I have these pictures of my kids in my hometown.  And I would highly recommend you do this with your kids in your hometown sometime.

Now if Texas ever secedes from the nation, these pictures might just help us get back in.

And incidentally, is another reason I keep my birth certificate in a safe place.

When we were done downtown, I just HAD to get some more pictures of them in the Piney Woods of East Texas.

But next time we visit, I might just hire a better photographer (with a better camera)!

Yee-haw!

  1. It's called a bottle opener, my friend. I love the pics of your kiddos! I spent a day a few years ago taking pics of my kids all over town and in the Azalia garden on University. It was spring and the kids had a good time. Those are some of my fav pics of all time!!

  2. Great pictures and as good as a professionals too, in my opinion. Great bunch of half Texan kids there, they look like western models.

    1. It's more like a rustic "gazebo" of sorts made out of pine trees (of course!)

  4. What kind of phone do you have, woman? Those are superb for phone pictures! So, do you sort of drink chunky Coke then? Does it change the taste of the Coke? The peanuts? Do they get soggy? Does the Coke get salty? I am from Minnesota....we do not do wild and dangerous things like mix our foods together....oh, wait, ummm....I forgot hotdishes....nevermind.....

    1. Well thanks! My phone is a Samsung Galaxy II. I LOVE IT. It has an 8 megapixel camera and does a really nice job for a cell phone camera!

As for the coke... you only pour in a bit at a time. About as many as you saw in that picture of the coke bottles. So you aren't really drinking chunky coke, more like you take a drink and some peanuts come with it. It doesn't change the flavor of the coke that much, just is a nice taste together.

Does that make sense? If not, you better try it!! Although my 9yo son didn't like it at all!! :)

  5. Love the pics made me homesick. One Set of grandparents lived in Diboll we would drive from Fort Worth to go visit and I well rememeber the piney woods. There used to be an old place that my dad would always stop and and I would get orange sherbert from. Now mind you I am 53 and that was back when I was 7 or 8 :) But I can still remember those wonderful Piney Woods. My Dads family also had a "camp" at Sam Rayburn Lake too.
Thank you for jogging my memory and the Kids look adorable.
