Giveaway Week {Giveaway #2}

My dear lazy people,

Daylight Savings Time is fast approaching.

BUT BEFORE YOU PANIC!  This is the time of year that we gain an hour!

Woohooooo! *lazy people every where do the happy dance!*

Yes, November 4th is the day we all get to sleep an extra hour.

(Unless you're a highly motivated person, and then you will probably spend that hour being productive in some Pinterest inspired way.)

(Bless your heart.)

But as we change our clocks back that extra glorious hour, it's also that time of year that we are reminded to change the batteries in our smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.

And this I don't want you to be lazy about, mkay?

Every year needless lives are lost because of non-working smoke detectors, mostly due to dead or missing batteries.  I don't want you to be one of those people. And the good people at Energizer® don't want you to be one of those people either.  They are celebrating their 25th anniversary of their Change Your Clock Change Your Battery® program.

This year they have partnered with 25 fire departments in 25 cities across the nation to equip them with Energizer® family safety products for their department and to share in their communities.  And they would love to share one of these safety products with one of you!

This Family Safety Kit with a reusable grocery tote contains:

· Two packages of Energizer® MAX® Batteries with Power Seal Technology – Dependable, powerful performance for the devices that help keep your family safe; now hold their charge when stored for up to 10 years
 · One Energizer® Flameless Wax Candle – Enjoy the realistic flicker of a scented wax candle without the worry of open flame or hassle of soot and dripping wax
· One Energizer® Weatheready® Safety Light – Waterproof flashlight powered by AA, AAA or C cell batteries; includes safety whistle and imprinted preparedness checklist
· One Kidde Battery-Operated Combination Carbon Monoxide and Smoke Alarm

The total value of the Family Safety Kit is approximately $78 per kit!

My favorite thing in the Energizer® Family Safety Kit is the Weatheready® flashlight!  Check it out...

It has a checklist of things to do in case of an emergency printed on the side of it!  And it also has a strap that has an alert whistle on it.  (loved that idea!)

It also runs on AAA, AA, or C batteries, so you have many options in an emergency and aren't limited to just one type of battery!  How convenient and smart is that?!

I didn't expect to be so impressed with a flashlight, but I truly am!  I got it all ready to go and put it in my dresser drawer for easy retrieval if there was ever an emergency during the night.

Through November 4, be sure and visit the Energizer Bunny® Facebook page and click on the Fire Safety Info Tab. Here you will have the chance to enter a sweepstakes to win an additional Family Safety Kit (valued at $150)!

And be sure and also visit the Change Your Clock Change Your Battery page on Energizer's® website where they offer you safety tips, downloadable escape plans and fire safety activities for kids.

Now, U.S. residents can enter to win the Family Safety Kit by filling out the Rafflecopter form below!  (Subscribers via reader or email click here to see the form).

Each task you do (or already do) is an entry to win!

Monday Musings

1.  There's only 2 days left of Pastor Appreciation month and I still haven't received your email telling me your sending us on an all-expense paid vacation to Hawaii!  Hurry and get that in!!

2.  I'm leaving for Texas this Saturday.  FOR THREE WHOLE WEEKS!  Ahhhhh.  It will be good to be back in the Motherland.  Sipping tea, eating Blue Bell ice cream, stomping on my old stomping grounds.

I have SO much to do before I leave and I also have some commitments I've made to a few companies that I need to blog about before I leave.  So get ready!  I'm declaring it giveaway week here on I'm a Lazy Mom in order to get it all done before I go!

Then after that... three weeks of Texas posts coming your way!  WOOT!  (or should I say... YEEEEE-HAW!)

3.  In order to prepare my house for me leaving for three weeks, I decided it was high time I cleaned off my dresser.

Here's what it looked like before:

(Don't judge. You have a surface in your house somewhere that looks like that too.)

(Oh yes you do!)

And here's what it looks like now:

Soooo much better!

Although, when I posted the before and after's on my Facebook page, people wanted pictures of my floor before they congratulated me on my stellar achievement.

Haters.

4.  This weekend we started raking our leaves.

And by "we," I mean Lazy Dad and the kids.

5.  Also this weekend I scored a bunch of new tops on clearance at Walmart.  Most of them for only $3 each!  But... I apparently have a slight infatuation with a certain color.

Then I went to a different Walmart across town and bought 2 more pink tops.

Good grief!  Stage an intervention!  Help me stop the pink madness!!

6.  Last Thursday my sweet friend Tami invited me and a few other friends over to her house for breakfast girl time.

*sigh* I just love when my friends invite me over to their houses to eat pretty food.

Plus, the word on Facebook is that pretty food has fewer calories, so SCORE!

That's what I've been up to.  What have you been doing lately?

(Oh, and don't miss the giveaways all this week on the ol' blog here!)

Why Do You People Come Here?!

So... I don't know, I've been particularly busy as of late.  And I have many things I need to do before I leave to go home to Texas(!!!!) for three weeks.

Classes to finish.
Blog posts to write.
Things to turn in.
Stuff to gather.

But, yeah, you didn't really come here to read my list of things to do, now did ya?

Hmmm, what DID you come here for?

Would you like to see the current state of my basement this morning?

Would you like to see what I drank during the last Presidential debate?

Would you like to see the corn husk doll my son had to make for school?

(Side note: if you ever need to make a corn husk doll, you know, cause that's all the rage these days, use husks that aren't dry yet.  We, uh, didn't know that.  So don't make our mistake.  You know, when you all run out to make your corn husk doll.)

Would you like to see my new favorite socks?

Would you like to see the donuts Lazy Dad and I ate at Olive Garden last week?

Would you like to see the refrigerator handle my kids broke?

Would you like to see the Toledo Rockets game we went to?

Would you like to see my galoshes?

Would you like to see the new candy I discovered that I didn't need to know existed in life?

What DO you people come here for?

To see my gorgeousness?

To see me question Lazy Dad's anniversary cards?

To see me post Lazy Mom Recipes I didn't even make yet?  (Yes, I'm THAT lazy.)

To see my confessions of eating half the desserts I DO make?

To see Lazy Dad get jiggy with it?

WHY DO YOU PEOPLE COME HERE?!

Apple Ring {A Lazy Mom Recipe}

Oh my dear lazy people!  Have I got a yummy recipe for you today!!

Feast your eyes upon this!

My friend Emily posted this picture on Facebook this weekend and I immediately demanded to know if it was a Lazy Mom Recipe.

AND IT IS!

AHHHHHH!

Here's what Emily had to say about it:
I made one in a square pan which is easier to me than trying to get it in a circle. I also peeled too many apples so I made two!
And here are Emily's instructions:

Apple Ring

Apples
Brown Sugar
Cinnamon
Grands® Biscuits
1 Stick of Butter

Peel apples and use an apple slicer to core and slice. Sprinkle apples with a little cinnamon and brown sugar.

Melt 1 stick butter about 3/4 c brown sugar and about 1 tsp or so of cinnamon.  I don't measure, so if it looks to thick add a little more butter.

Take Grands® biscuits and slice in half. Alternate in a pan a couple apples then a biscuit, a couple of apples then a biscuit and so on. Pour the melted mixture over it and bake at 350Āŗ for about 30 minutes or until the apples are soft and the biscuits are baked.

Mm, mm, mmm!  Thanks for sharing your recipe with us Emily!

Now, I would like to add that because I'm a lazy baker, I would probably not bother to peel the apples, seeing that I don't do that for my apple pies either. *blush*

Also, to make a ring more easily, just put the recipe in a bundt pan, like you do for Lazy Sticky Buns!  These recipes are very similar! So be sure and check out that recipe as well!

A Lazy Mom Lunchbox Sandwich with Wonder Bread {and Giveaway}

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Wonder bread. All opinions are 100% mine.

(Surprise!! It's ANOTHER giveaway here on I'm a Lazy Mom!  I guess I should have just declared this "giveaway week" on the ol' blog since this makes the third this week.  Wowza!)

I know a lot of moms really struggle with what to pack in their kids' lunches for school.  Coming up with lunchbox ideas can be a challenge, espeically for those of us lazy moms who may not really enjoy cooking!

Fortunately for me, my kids enjoy making sandwiches and have the ability to come up with creative interesting ideas for lunch.  (They obviously don't get this cooking initiative from their mother.)

So I decided to give them free reign to come up with some new sandwich ideas that they would love to eat for lunch.  Plus, total bonus? Something THEY make is more likely to be eaten!

We used Wonder Bread for our sandwich.  Did you know they don't just make white bread anymore?  They have over 20 different varieties!

We picked out Wonder Bread's Smart Wheat to try.  It's 100% wheat and has no high fructose corn syrup (something I'm a stickler about).  With our Wonder Bread Smart Wheat in hand, the kids went to work creating their new sandwiches.

My daughter has recently discovered the love of a peanut butter and banana sandwich, so she immediately suggested putting this on her Wonder Bread.

BUT, we put our heads together and decided to up the ante a little bit with a little drizzle of caramel on top!

It was really yummy and my girl totally approved of it!

My oldest son wanted a bit more traditional sandwich, so he opted for a good ol' turkey, cheese and mayo.

To make his creation a bit more unique, though, he decided to shred up some carrots and chop up some pickles on his Wonder Bread.

The result?

Serious yumminess!

The best part about it is that it got my kids in the kitchen and got them thinking creatively.

And got me out of making them lunch! *wink*

By the way, Wonder Bread just launched a Smart White for Kids.  It has the same taste and texture of white, but is fortified with the fiber of 100% whole wheat.  AND it only has 50 claories per slice, among other things!  Be sure and look for it the next time your at the grocery store!

Giveaway: U.S. residents can enter to win a month's supply of Wonder Bread (via 4 coupons)! And three (3) winners will be chosen!

To Enter: leave a comment on this blog post answering the question: how do you keep packed lunches fun for your kids?

Oh! And be sure and “like” Wonder Bread on Facebook!

I was SHOCKED at what I found behind McDonald's counters!

Last Friday I attended an Open Door Tour at one of our local McDonald's.  And I was really surprised by what I discovered!

The Open Door Tour was designed to take bloggers and media guests behind the counter at McDonald's and give you a real honest look at their menu and ingredients.

I didn't expect to be shocked by what I found behind their counter, but I was!

Shocking Fact #1: Did you know that at McDonald's employees have to wash their hands every hour?  And sanitize their hands every twenty minutes?  And sanitize their food station regularly as well?!

Shocking, but true!

Shocking Fact #2: Did you know that McDonald's only uses 100% beef?  No fillers.  No pink slime.  Literally nothing goes into their meat until they salt and pepper it after it's cooked.

Shocking Fact #3: Did you know that the reason McDonald's freezes their beef and other fresh items is to preserve the freshness and quality of it?  So that their customer gets a quality burger at the peak of freshness every time.

Shocking Fact #4: Did you know that about 80% of McDonald's menu is UNDER 400 calories?

80%, people?! That's shocking!!

In fact, McDonald's is now changing their menu board to feature the calorie counts so customers can make better choices while their ordering.

Shocking Fact #5: Did you know that McDonald's uses household name brand ingredients?

Seriously, y'all, this shocked me!  Brands you know and use in your own home while cooking go into your McDonald's favorites. Things like... Mission tortillas, Dannon yogurt, and Newman's Own Dressing.

Shocking Fact #6: Did you know that at McDonald's every time you order a McCafe' coffee beverage, that's when the coffee beans are ground?

True story!  The beans aren't ground until you order your cup o' joe, baby!

Socking Fact #7: Did you know that Egg McMuffins are made with *gasp* REAL EGGS?!

The way they make them that signature round "patty" type thingy on your McMuffin is by cooking them in this:

Who knew?!

Here's the shocking short and skinny of it: By attending this Open Door Tour, I learned that McDonald's isn't trying to hide anything from their customers and the general public.

If all those rumors you hear about McDonald's were true and they were serving that gross stuff to the masses, don't you think they would have been called out and shut down by now?

I think fast food restaurants, and for some reason especially McDonald's, have a wild misconception going on.  The thought is this... if it's mass produced fast food, it's low quality.  And that, my dear lazy moms and dads, couldn't be further from the truth at McDonald's.

I truly was shocked by their attention to cleanliness and quality ingredients.  If you'd like to learn more and have your own Open Door Tour of McDonald's, check out the "See What We're Made Of" section of McDonald's website.

Giveaway: You can enjoy a taste of McDonald's "Favorites Under 400 Calories" menu items!  McDonald's is giving away coupons for free under 400 calorie items away to FIVE of you!

To Enter: U.S. residents can fill out the Rafflecopter form below.  Each task you do (or already do) is an entry to win!

It's Tuesday, So I'm Monday Musing. Wait. What?

1.  This weekend Lazy Dad made a dessert recipe that was SO bad for you, I totally regretted all of my "quality control" testing... that, uh, got a little out of hand....

I started with just a small little sliver in the corner, but it soon turned into this:

I'm sure none of you have ever done that ever.

2.  Look what I found on eBay yesterday... my old Holly Hobby Kitchen!!!

Well, this isn't exactly MY old Holly Hobby Kitchen, but mine looked just like this.  I confirmed it with my mother who said it took my dad and her three nights to put the thing together for my sister and I.  Such love!  :)

3.  Over the weekend we had a get-together with our church staff and board.  The host and hostess pulled out some old games for us all to play, and everyone loved this game.  Have you ever seen it?

It's called Skittles.  Basically you spin a top and watch it as it knocks down as many "skittles" (pins) as it spins around the different chambers.  Each pin has a point value and the further back it goes, the higher the amount.

Anyway, we were all mesmerized by this game.  Adults and kids alike!  And now I want one for Christmas.

Hey!  Maybe we should just do all old school games for Christmas?  That might be a fun theme to do one year!

4.  Lazy Dad and I watched Avengers Sunday night.  We try to stay hip and current with these types of things.

*ahem*

It was a good movie, but the best part about it was all the witty lines.  So many great ones (as we had heard over and over about)!

But by far, my favorite part of the WHOLE movie was this scene right here:

I cried with laugther.

I mean, what else do a bunch of exhausted super hero's do after they save the world from certain annihilation?

Get something to eat of course!

Brilliance.  Utter hilarious brilliance.

I think I want a poster of this scene on my wall.

5.  We had a Family Fun Night at our church on Friday.  We played lots of "Minute to Win It" type games.

People were spinning (and falling), fighting Ninjas with pencils, running around tables, and diving for balloons.

Fun and humiliation were had by all.

6.  I feel the need to confess that I'm only slightly addicted to the McDonald's Monopoly Game this year.

I have years that I'm really into it and years that I'm not at all.  This is one of those "really into it" years.

And my kids are kinda into it as well.

That's what's new with me.  What's new with you?
