Most of you don’t know that I have a personal blog. I started it in 2005 when I first heard about blogging as a way to keep our Wisconsin and Texas families updated on our lives here in Ohio.
When I’m a Lazy Mom started really taking off in 2010 I made the decision to switch that blog to private and I rarely post on it these days. But 5 years of our lives are captured on it, all when my kids were preschoolers and I was in the throws of intense motherhood.
On occasion I like to search back through our family blog that has so many personal stories and funny moments captured on it. The other night I had a hankering to watch a video of my middle child when he cracked a whole audience up at a badge ceremony at our old church. Every time I watch it I cry with laughter. It’s just so darn cute. And I just can’t imagine where he gets his hamminess from.
(Is hamminess a word? Or did I just rock out a new one?)
After watching that video and laughing at my little preschooler frozen in time, I remembered another video I wanted to watch. It’s from July of 2007 and one that truly captures what having 3 preschoolers in your home is like.
And I just HAD to share it with you all. It will make all of you preschool moms out there feel better about yourselves, I guarantee it!
Now, this video player is old. I’m not sure it’s supported on ipads, iphones, androids, kindle fires and the like. But this is the original player I used on our family blog, so it’s what you get and you may have to visit this here lazy blog on an actual computer to see it (if you feel so inclined).

Oh my goodness people! Did you see that room?! Ugh!
Not too long after I videoed that I moved the entire play room downstairs in the basement so I could SHUT THE DOOR and not have to sit in it in our family room anymore!
I would also like to mention that the “mastermind” of the mess sure was a cute mastermind. That was back in his hat wearing days where he literally wore hats every waking moment of the day, and when he went to bed at night he’d put his hat on his bed post and then put it right back on when he woke up in the morning. It makes me smile to see him in that stage again. He was a hat loving sweetie.
So. You moms of several preschoolers out there, does your house look like that?
And don’t worry, it does get better.
So hang in there!
And in the meantime, get your video camera out and capture these moments. We tend to only capture the moments that are “perfect” and not the things that aren’t.
In fact, once when my oldest was two and throwing a MAJOR fit over wanting juice to drink that I wasn’t giving him, I pulled out the video camera! I captured the whole fit he threw as he hung onto the refrigerator door so that I would remember these moments in motherhood. Because they too soon become a distant memory and we forget the hard parts and romanticize the good ones.
But I think the moments that we don’t want to capture at the time make much better video footage that warm your heart years later and remind you of those crazy preschool days!
And now that I’m on the other side and the preschool years are already a distant memory, it’s true! I’m so glad I captured these “less than perfect” moments!
