As I mentioned in a post in December, my family decided to send each other family gifts this Christmas. I was so inspired by our list of care package ideas (number 3 on my list of family gift ideas), especially the “box of sunshine” one, that I decided we should send my brother’s family in Texas a “box of snow!” They are always wishing they could be here in Ohio with us when it’s snowing, so it seemed most appropriate to “snow them in” for a family movie night and I knew they’d love it!
After gathering all my supplies and lovingly packing everything in the box, the happy little package of winter showed up on their doorstep and my niece and nephews were beside themselves with anticipation!
Don’t they look thrilled? Um, especially those older ones…..
Inside the box, they discovered that we had sent them a cold “winter blast” to snow them in for a movie night.
My 9-year-old daughter decorated the box panels all by herself. She worked so hard cutting out all kinds of sizes of snowflakes and we also threw handfuls more in the box as well, so that snowflakes would keep falling out on them as they pulled stuff out!
Now, let me show you what we packed inside!
Christmas was the PERFECT time to send this care package because there are so many snowflake things out in the store! I found these yummy chocolate snowflakes and put one in for each child.
(Don’t worry, I also put in two little snowflake covered bags of Lindor Truffles for the adults to enjoy.)
I also included a package of sugar cookie mix and all the fixings to make it into snowflake cookies! Including a snowflake covered plate to serve them on!
For a “snowed in” movie night, you can’t NOT have popcorn!?! So I found these cute snowflake square tubs to use as popcorn bowls.
And while I was REALLY wishing Disney’s movie “Frozen” was out on DVD already (because come on! That would have been the PERFECT movie to send in keeping with my snow theme!!) I tore myself away from my happy theme world and got them what they wanted instead. *sigh*
And just for fun, to make things a bit more “we’re snowed in at Christmas” like, I threw in one of these for their wax warmer.
But I think the BIGGEST hit was this last little thing we included. A jar of snow!
My brother called me after they had opened everything and said, “Oh! It’s so sad! The jar of snow melted.”
But between you and me *looks over shoulders* I didn’t really put snow in the jar… we didn’t have any at the time I packed the box! So instead I just put some water in the jar so it looked like the snow had melted! *shhhh!*
And actually, since I was sending the snow in a mason jar of sorts, I put in boiling hot water to seal the lid to the jar so it wouldn’t leak if it got knocked over! *But you didn’t hear me say any of that, mkay?*
Yes, the family gift giving was a success. We also shipped off a family package to my sister’s family (but we taped the box up before we remembered to decorate the box panels, doh!) and we received two very fun packages from both families, as well! My brother’s family sent us a Texas themed family movie night and my sister’s family sent a Cracker Barrel themed package full of the fun stuff you find in their store! Such a great idea!
