Heading out with baby in tow and you’ll be needing a warm bottle? Throw a thermos of hot water in your diaper bag! Simply add the hot water to the formula in a bottle and viola’! Instant warm bottle.
Trying to get them to give up their pacifier? Do like one mom did who took her son to a store, told her child he could get any toy he wanted as long as he paid for it with his pacifier (of course, you’ll want to prep the cashier for this first and secretly pay with real money!). When they ask for their pacifier again, remind them that they used it to pay for their new toy!
Struggling to get your kids to settle into bed at night? Set a timer for an allotted amount of time, say 10 minutes, and they have to get in bed (and stay in bed) before the timer goes off! If not, they have to go to bed 10 minutes earlier the next night!
Picky eater? We have a rule in our house that even if you don’t like something you have to at least take ONE bite of it every time it’s served, because as we continue to grow, our taste buds can change. Something you didn’t like last time we ate it, might taste good to you now! However, if after one bite, they still don’t like it, we let them off the hook. This way they are at least still trying it and often times they do change their mind over it!
Hitting that awkward stage with your kids where they feel embarrassed to discuss certain things with you? Assign each child a notebook and ask them to write down any questions, feelings or thoughts they want to share with you, but may be too embarrassed to ask. They can leave this notebook under your pillow for you to respond to and you can leave it under their pillow when you’re done.
Don’t like how much “access” your teen has to friends after you’ve gone to bed? Keep all their cell phone/iPod Touch/computer chargers in your room and assign a time they have to be plugged in at night. The devices are not allowed to leave the room till a certain time that you set each morning.
