A fellow lazy mom emailed me a great lazy mom tip, so I thought I’d share it all with you today! Check it out….
“ALL my kids are readers and I always wondered (when they were younger) how I was going to get them to read. Now that they are older, I have figured out what made them readers!
First of all, they see me reading all the time. But what has really worked is that I have always let them read when they go to bed. It is something they all do every night. They are allowed to stay up later as long as they are reading. One of my daughters even told her friend that she likes to read her Bible at night because then she can stay up as late as she wants because I never make her stop reading when it is the Bible. (Now, that is not totally true, but funny that she thinks that!)
Another thing that has worked well is that we go to the library once a week. I tell them about how much I love books and say, “aren’t libraries the absolute best?” I also say this when we are in book stores, but we rarely buy books. They have always thought a library is a big deal and a fun place to be.
Another thing I do, is make the older kids read to the younger kids. Even our 4 year old “reads” to our special needs daughter. I have my oldest son sometimes read the Bible to all of us (while I might be doing dishes or folding clothes) or I have one of the older kids read to two of the younger kids at the same time. Everyone is learning and I don’t have anything to do with it. Oh, how lazy I am!”
